I go into the menu and I am not given an option for flash settings.

  • Shiloh4me Mar 07, 2008

You are over my head on taking a soft reset of the camera. Can you walk me thru it step by step?

  • Shiloh4me Mar 07, 2008

Nothing happened. The book I rec'd with camera tells me to go to the four way controller, select the left arrow to select the flash mode in CAPTURE MODE. When I push the left arrow, nothing comes up. Any idea how to get into the Capture mode? Three modes do come up on the menu: Mode 1: Recorded pixels; Quality Level; White Balance; Sensitivity

Mode 2: AE Metering; Drive Mode; Digital Zoom; Instant Review

Mode 3: Color; Sharpness, Saturation; Date Imprint

I took out the batteries and memory card for 5 minutes. I replaced batteries as requested without memory card and it came up 'built in memory full'; then I inserted new memory card and my flash on the screen still has an X thru it and I am still unable to get into flash mode.

Just letting you'all know how I reset this camera, thereby getting the NO FLASH off and back to all normal settings:

Change the dial to the 'screwdriver/wrench' setting (also known as SETUP). Click on SETUP 3 and click on RESET and whala.........camera is back to normal.

    Thanks for all your help.

Go to the menu and select the flash setting/s into automatic / on. Once the flash is set to automatic it will show the flash everytime there's not enough light when you get picture/s

Try to take a soft reset of the camera, so that all the default setting/s including the menu should be back in place in original factory setting/s

Or if you'r camera does not have that reset switch try this one:

    1. Remove the batteries and any memory cards that are in the camera.

    2. Wait at least five minutes.

    3. Reinstall the batteries.

      NOTA:
Do not put the memory cards back in the camera.

    4. Turn on the camera.

    5. If the camera turns on and functions correctly, reinstall the memory cards.

Remove the batteries and then press and hold the Reset button for at least ten seconds.

    NOTA:
The Reset button is the inset square located behind the memory card slot as shown in the figure below.

    Enjoy

My pentax optio m20 will not flash.have i turned it off

At the back of your camera, there is a circular button and a flash symbol on it. Pust that button it will circulates through "Auto, Flash-off, Flash-on, Red-eye reduction" modes. As you see those modes displayed on the LCD screen of your camera, chose one of them as you wish
(in this case chose the one except "flash-off" mode ofcourse) :)

Flash problems

What you are saying is that the flash will not flash. (go off), if I understand correctly.
First, make sure that the flash is on.
The flash can be turned off in most modes.
Another thing to try is to RESET ALL in the menu.
Then go back and set all the options like you want.
If the flash will not work in any mode, and you cannot get it to work, you may want to sell it on some site as Ebay, and offer it for repair, as is, or parts.
