I was thinking more allong the lines of just getting the case off so I could check the ATA/SATA connector or salvage the 2.5"!! (my friend dropped it, and now the computer refuses to recognise its presence, let allone attempt to mount it) but the case is particularly tricky and only had one ***** on the outside which doesnt seem to do anything.
It looks like this - - only its 40Gb not 80

Their may be some screws on the underside of the disc, however all you will see when open is the platters & the arm that scans the plater ,not very exciting .

good luck

ok , the first test is !
does it spin, hear to case, whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
if not its dead or you lost power to it.
same for all HDD.

if dead, take it apart (out of warranty) and reset all internal cables.
or remove the drive inside and test it.
if drive good, good, if bad its toast.
if the drive is really good, then the power pack in side is bad.
so buy a new case , for the working drive.
I make my own External drives. that way, its not magic and i can fix it and can pick the best cases made, i use fan cases.
that run very cool, heat kills most drives, and 10x that on most
external drives, where heat is never ADDRESSED !

Freecom 400GB Hard drive not recognized.its a Freecom mobile drive xxs 400gb , my pc just cant recgnize the hard drive

I'll assume your using Windows.
I'll assume it's a USB drive.
I'll assume it is an external drive.
And I'll assume it's formatted as NTFS.

Try using the USB (or FireWire) port for anouther drive to see if that is the problem, if it is then reinstall the driver for the port, through the Computer Managment Concole (assuming yur using windows).

If you formatted the drive as FAT, re-format it as NTFS.
