Hello there,
First things first:
1) Did you enable on BIOS all USB ports?
2) Install all USB drivers?
3) then use another port USB 2.0
3) it is suppose to recognize it now.

Need component identification for G4 powermac

Which component? There are a lot of them. Memory type is printed on each stick. Hard drive and DVD burner are IDE and are interchangeable. Anything connected by USB is plug and play. For Mac ID go to About This Mac menu bar, upper left shown as an Apple logo. First screen will tell you OS, RAM and processor. Click on More info to see a detailed profile.

My macbook pro doesn't recognize my rosewill usb 2.0 burner. How do I install?

Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. or
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard or

you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your DVD/CD then reinstall the driver for this device
if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down cd dvdrom drives if you see a yellow question or exclamation mark?! or a red x right click you will need to update the driver or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver
hope this helps

Should not be a problem but here is a thought. Have you change the jumper on the IDE drive to secondary? Failing that, can you contact the IDE drive company for help?

My CD/DVD/burner just quit on my 2005 MAC Ibook G4. This has never happened before---is it dead for good do you think? Is it worth fixing? Should I just invest in an external? I have a small portable...

first off you should look and see if it has become disabled in your hardware profile. If it is in the list then its not dead but just might need to be reinstalled or driver update. Or replace the drive with a better drive for as low as $99 http://www.mcetech.com/ibg4dvdr8dl.html good luck.

hi blgard,

please ensure u have wired up this internal combo drive properly,
- that IDE cables and power cable is connected, that the jumper setting
is properly(if using this as a single drive without any harddrive connected to the same IDE cable jumper must be set to single!)
- that in BIOS both ODE channels are activated and drive detection is set to auto

when done this properly, the drives will be listed when booting up(press pause button, right before windows is loading, to see list)

if not, use the other channel(echange IDE plugs on the mainboard), retry
and see.

when booting the green lamp of the drive should light up shortly!

then goto windows/setting/hardware, run hardware detection/device manager and wait for the new device to show up. Make sure you have the driver CD ready for windows will ask for it, (if you don't have another cd-drive ready, copy content of cd onto usb-stick/thumbdrive instead )
le win search for the drivers on the cd/usb-device,
proceed installing, finish and reboot.

if now windows can't find the drive (see win explorer)
but it is listed when booting up, get the latest drivers from the manufacturer's homepage and reinstall drivers!

I hope this works for You!
