Question about Brother SX-4000 Typewriter

2 Answers

Ink ribbon My brother SX-4000 keeps typing certain letters that are sort of faded and incomplete, as if it is running out of ink----but it is a new ribbon, and it will do this on a different character randomly. One day the capital M will be perfect; the next day it's only half there when I type it! Any suggestions out there? JA

I agree with mrfix, Look closley at the used part of the ribbon just after a bad print to see if it over typed on the ribbon.

How do i get my Brother A X 250 Eletric Type writer to type the correct letters ?

"If your unit is not printing properly:
1.Ensure the ribbon cartridge has not run out of ribbon. If your ribbon appears silver or gray, install a new cartridge.
2.Ensure the black lever in the center of the carriage is pressed to therear towards the paper. If not, press it to the rear to lock the Daisy Wheel into place.
3.Reset the unit by holding down the [CODE] Key and pressing the [SHIFT]Key and the [WORD OUT] Key.
4.Release all three keys.
5.Try typing.
If the problem continues, your unit will need servicing. You can locate a Brother Authorized Service Center in your area:

I have a brothers sx-4000 typewriter, i recently bought new ink ribbon. But for some reason my typewriter still does not print the letters at all. I know my typewriter is still good, I dont know why it...

There are two things that people mess up when changing printwheels and ribbons. Is that the ribbon is not in the guides properly. The other is that the latch the holds the type wheel is not locked in the forward position.

My typewriter all of a sudden just stopped typing letters. im not sure if the ink has run out...it wasn't fading or anything before it stopped working mid typing

The ribbon might have fade out, please try and replace the ribbon or check the ribbon selector if is not for stencil cutting. If is in stencil cutting it wont print on the papers as u type. Thanks

What is a ribbon for a electronic typewriter?

A printer ribbon is an inked strip of tissue or other material necessary for any typewritter to print.
In the case of your machine, this ribbon comes inside a cartidge or cassette that looks like those in the image in this link:

Dear Chruchbells,

You may be right about typing on the coreection riboon. Tell your friend to take out the ribbon cartridge and reinsert it. It needs to click all the way down, or else if it is at the ink cartridge level, it will type white!
