Hello there !
First things Frist:
1) Test the switching on keyboard for external monitor and see if work, or you disable the laptop monitor.
2) install the driver for select external monitor. depending the video card, you may have 2 display panels, to select, on that driver. NVIDIA or RADEON

Black screen

Check with an external monitor. I presume it boots? If it does and there is no picture, there may well be a GPU issue.

Screen flickers then goes black

Try unplugging the battery and using only the charger. If it works, then the battery is faulty. Try using a different charger. Your monitor could also not be receiving enough power, or be broken.

Try connecting a regular monitor to the VGA output see if you get video to another device. If so then the issue will be hardware between the board and lcd. If not then the issue could be bad cpu,bad ram,or a bad motherboard.

My screen is blank when I turn the computer on?

If you have recently connected a second monitor, and have since disconnected the second screen, the primary screen will be completely black. Restart your computer and this should fix it. If it continues, your screen may have over-heated, in which case it needs complete replacement, or it may need to cool down.

If you have an LCD screen, check the power cable connections on the back of your sceen making sure they are connecting properly. If all is connected and you have tried to restart - your screen will need to be replaced.
