Question about Kenmore 98702 Stacked Washer/Dryer

I have a Kenmore Stackable Washer/Dryer 417.99170120 which squeeks/skweels

I have read to use vasaline to lubricate the rear bearing and socket. Before I attempt it, I dont have any service manual for my machine and was wondering the best way to access the bearing at the rear of the dryer drum. With the stackable is accessed from the rear of the machine or some other way.

Havent yet worked on it but I was wondering if the kenmore/whirlpool laundry center 417.99170120 has both dryer drum rollers and a central bearing. I could not find any part for this model number dryer drum rollers.

I have the same problem less than a year old and had service man lubricate rear drum bearing, all under warranty, now a year later same thing only no warranty and I won't pay for service man. This is a problem with these units, Sears should come good for it. Anyway I'm looking for step by step instructions on hold to dismantle so I can lubricate or replace the bearing. Thanks for any help.

Use only a high temperature lithium grease,Vaseline will liquefy and drip out. This is not an easy task.. The top cover, control panel, front panel and drum will have to be removed to access the bearing. Two people are HIGHLY recommended for this task. If this has been going on for awhile, suggest purchasing new bearing before taking apart. (bearing is plastic and wears down when grease dries out)

Look at back of dryer and see if an inner panel is removeable. If yes, I would try that. And instead of vasoline, get some lubricant like grease at a hardware store, as long as you are going through the trouble, you might as well get some good lubricant. Vasoline can smell a little when it gets old and good lubricant should hold up better. Good luck!

I don't know your model, but in my experience if it really squeaks it is better to replace the bearing rather than simply lubricate it, so I think you are on the right track. The bearing kit comes with a little tube of lubricant. Don't know whether you will also need rollers, but it is best to order them and if you don't need you can probably return onopened package. These parts should be stocked by your kenmore/whirpool center, but if not, I have located other appliance part dealers on web. Try searching for "appliance parts" on google to locate suppliers.

My kenmore heavy duty extra large capacity 2 speed motor when drying my clothes squeeks when turning to dry clothes can I spray wd40 to make it stop squeeking and how or what do I oil?

Most likely a wheel bearing on the tub of a front loading washer, or the belt tensioner pulley on a top load washer. Either is not fixed by lubrication but replacement is called for. There are usually 3-4 wheels on front loaders that could be out. Replace all of them if you are going to replace one. The belt tensioner is a single assembly that can be ordered from any appliance parts warehouse or Sears.

The belt in my dryer is squeeking. What type of

It's probably the front tub guides that are worn out causing the squeak. It's a felt lined circular shaped guide that holds the front of the tub. The rear of the tub is held by a ball and socket bearing. Access to the guides is behind the front panel of the dryer. Remove the screws across the top

I have a Kenmore stackable washer and dryer and when ever you turn the dryer off you can hear the drum grinding I can hear pennies in it would that make a difference?

You have front felt glide kit that the drum rides on and also rear bearing in back also that drum rides in. One of these is the problem and they both have to be repaired by going thru the front not the back of the dryer.

The dryer squeeks when I turn it on. It will be three years old in November 2009.

Remove drum by lifting rear ball out of the socket. Use high temperature grease in the socket, that should fix it.

Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Kenmore stackable washer/dryer...dryer making HORRIBLE shrieking sound while drying...any ideas?  don't have dryer #

If your dryer is noisy, check these:
Rollers Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time.

Idler pulley Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it.

Glides Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

Rear drum bearing Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.

Blower wheel Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it.

I have a kenmore stackable washer and dryer and the dryer squeeks really loud it drives me crazy and makes it hard to do my clothes

depending on the age and the usage of the dryer, it could be the belt, or the bearing that the drum rotates on

probably not belt most likely rear drum bearing which means a complete tear down of dryer from front console, rop and front panel will have to be removed then drum will need to be lifted up out of bearing cup belt removed part is avaiable from sears .com or local parts house unit is made by fridgedaire

Dryer makes a loud squeaking/squealing noise while drying.

If the dryer model number begins with 417, the drum is supported by a ball bearing in back, and a seal and glides up front. Often, the bearing will become very dry, either from years of use, or from excessive lint blowing up into the bearing. If the bearing isn't cracked or otherwise noticeably bad, you can usually solve the issue simply by lubing the bearing with a high temp grease. While the machine is apart...(a major pain in the butt), make sure to check the condition of the seal and glides on the front panel, and replace the belt if it looks at all cracked or frayed.
If this dryer is not a 417 and/or does not have a rear bearing, it's best to get a maintainance kit (belt, idler pulley and drum rollers) and install all the aforementioned parts, as they are the most likely source of screech. Also, check the motor by spinning the shaft manually with the belt off....if that is squeeking, it's motor
