I have a Xerox 4250. After the ink cartridge ran out I replaced it with a new one and got the "replace photoreceptor cartridge" message. Reinserted the cartridge and it stayed. Called Xerox and they couldn't explain. I turned the machine off and on and the message changed to "replace photoreceptor cartridge" but an additional message of replace Smart Drum came up. I replaced the Smart Drum and it is working fine now. Note: I really don't think it was time to replace the Smart Drum. But the nearest authorized service provider was 3.5 hours away and this had to be cheaper than a service call from that distance.
I have a Xerox xc820. The drum kit needed to be replaced, which I did as well as put in a new toner cartridge. The pages are now coming out very dark. Prior to putting in the new drum kit and new toner cartridge, the machine ran fine. I have tried all I know how to do and to no avail. Have cleaned the "wire", all the parts I can get to and cleaned the plate. Any help would be appreciated.
Replace the toner:
Always use the smart card provided with the new Print Cartridge when replacing the cartridge. The smart card contains the information necessary to reset the level of Toner. Replacing the cartridge without using the smart card may result in the consumable management system being inaccurate.
Insert the smart card provided with the new Print Cartridge into the smart card reader. A "Change Toner?" message will be displayed.
Press the [OK] button. An "Open Front Cover Replace Toner" message will be displayed.
Push on the left and right side of the Front Cover and simultaneously lower the cover.
Grasp the handle on the Print Cartridge, and then raise and remove the cartridge from the machine.
Unpack the new cartridge, and then insert the cartridge into the machine.
Close the Front Cover. A "Have You Changed the Toner?" message will be displayed.
Press the [OK] button. A "Please Wait" message will be displayed while the machine reads the smart card, and then a "New Toner Remove Card" message will be displayed.
Remove the smart card from the reader and dispose of the card as normal office waste.
NOTE: If the smart card has been used with a previous installation of a Print Cartridge, a "Remove Card Already Used" message will be displayed. The smart card can only be used once. Make sure to use the card that came with the new cartridge.
Dell wants $169 for this part. Here's what it does:
* Applies toner to the page * Provides a usable life of up to 42,000 page impressions (up to 10,500 pages per color)
Overview The Imaging Drum Kit from Dell is specifically designed for use with Dell Color Laser Printer. This kit includes an imaging drum and instructions on how to replace it. It applies toner to the page and offers a usable life of up to 42,000 page impressions (up to 10,500 pages per color). The part number located on this toner cartridge is: P4866
Manufacturer Part# : M5065 Dell Part# : 310-5732
It comes with very detailed instructions on how to remove the old cartridge and install the new one. Very easy, but there's no way around the price tag.
Press the Options key on the control panel. The display will show "REPLACE DRUM - 1.YES 2.NO".
Press 1 to reset the drum count.
Close the front cover.
It happens because Brother decide that we are morons and cannot figure out when a drum is dead and so they make the printer refuse to work after a certain amount of time. This resets their dummy counter.
