Leaking oil - KitchenAid KSM90 Ultra Power Series Stand Mixer

There is a leaking gasket. The OIL is from the Grease applied to the gears. It may have somewhat turned a portion of lube to a liquid state due to heat within the motor housing during use. The OIL as you put it, could also leak out from the port where you insert the beaters. If so there is also a set of seals to prevent that from happening, and if they are worn or damaged, leaking can occur. This unit needs a professional serviceman to fix the problem.

I am sorry to hear you are having problems with your mixer. To stop the oil leaking from the front of the mixer, you just need to remove the drip ring and give it a good clean underneath and this should stop the oil from leaking out. You can see that there are 5 screws holding the upper and lower gearcase together. They pinch the gasket number 26 together and prevent the oil and grease from leaking. Remove the chrome ring by prying gently around the ring. You will see the 5 screw heads. Tighten them and the leaking will stop.

If it still leaks then you may have to replace the fiber washers number 29 which will involve disassembling the lower gear case.

Firstly I would take the head apart to find out what has failed. The oil you see should be a thick grease. Normally it is thick enough not to leak in this way. Has it been repaired and the wrong grease used? If it is making a funny noise it could be that one of the gears has failed. Most parts are easily available. Have a look at the parts list at:

Kitchenaid stand mixers are overpacked with oil to last the lifetime of the motor. If the motor sits idle for some time (is not used), the oil may begin to drip from the gears and settle. Oil leakage may primarily be seen from around the beater shaft or planetary action.

A stand mixer can lose up to a 1/4 cup of oil before it needs to be serviced.

It is recommended to run the mixer on speed 10 for 2 minutes in order to redistribute oil back into the motor. In order to prevent future occurences, this is recommended to be done every 3 weeks if mixer is not being used.

Oil seal around the shaft probably dried up. Before replacing, try penetrating oil at seal, wait a day; if no better, replace seal.

thats the planetary seal thats leaking.the seal is cheap its the labor that may be costly.is it just a nuisance leak or a lot?you dont want any oil to get in your mix.
