Re: locked canon powershot s80 memory card
SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

I would go to this site: www.CamerasAndParts.com They just work with the problems on the Canon Powershot cameras. You can probably find their email address on their site and email them. They are amazing if you need help with one of these models. If your memory card is not locked, I would have to assume there is a problem with the camera. That site would be the one to help, they just deal with the Canon Powershots exclusively and they are excellent for help with them cameras. Best of luck with it.
When this problem occur you need to set the memory card unlock or not protected.
Remove the memory card from camera and you can see a small button in
the memory card, so you need to slide that to set the memory card unlock or not
Your Sd1100 is compatible with a 4gb card, so that's not the issue. If the lock-switch is in the correct position, the only logical conclusion (which you have already come to.....good troubleshooting on your part!) is that the camera is busted. Send your two "friends" the bill. What a drag.
Have you tried looking at the memory card? Sometimes there is a switch on the card itself that slides up and down to lock, or unlock the card for usage. Hope this helps! (It should be white, and a semi-translucent plastic.)
