How can I change a Printhead?

that completely depends on the model of printer.
If printheads aren't available for your printer where you buy your ink, there's a good chance you can't replace the printheads.
Most lower end printers (under $150) don't allow printhead change because it's more cost effective to buy a new printer than replace the heads.
if printheads ARE available for your printer, the instructions on how to replace them will be included with the replacement heads.

Error message on brother dcp 540cn 'unable to change 30' have swithched it off and checked all cables. No joy It sometimes changes to unable to change 50 help appreciated!

This is almost always associated with debris or foreign objects in the printhead path or under where the printhead "parks."

With the power off, open the cover. Inspect the printhead path for little bits of paper, push pins, paperclips etc. Note the position of the printhead.

If the printhead is at the far left, gently slide it towards the center. Carefully look under where the head was positioned for debris. Use a flashlight if necessary.

Close cover. Plug in the machine. Try it again.

I am trying to change a 300 dpi zebra 110XiIII+ printer to 200 dpi. I have the printhead.

There is one screw in the center of the top of the printhead - where the toggles are. Unscrew, open printhead mechanism and disconnect printhead cables. Connect new printhead, ensuring that the printhead is aligned properly. There are holes on the back of the printhead that are used to align the printhead. The hinged assy has pins that go in the holes. Tighten screw. Ensure you adjust printhead resistance setting in menu. The printhead has a little label on it with a 3 digit number and an ohm symbol next to it. This is the printhead resistance setting.

My printer will only print all text on the high setting,on standard it prints with a lot of gaps.

if its a canon or hp printer try changing the cartridge if inks have built in printhead, if not try changing the printhead. if its an epson printer only authorized service center are allowed to change the printhead. the reason for the horizontal banding in printouts is that some of the nozzles in the printhead are not functioning or clogged.

Printer won't print in black

If you need to change the printheads on this printer you need to do the following:

- Open the main lid (not the scanner one)
- Check the LED Screen on the printer and you will see that it gives you the instructions to hold down the "OK" button on the printer panel for 5 seconds if you want to change the printhead... So do this... Hold the OK button.

The printer will now move the printheads into the exchange position.. Wait a few seconds for the printhead carriage to stop moving around as sometimes it can catch your fingers..then:

- Lift the blue flap (lift from the front - hinge at the back)
You should now see the printheads

- Carefully lift the little blue plastic handle for the printhead and pull this up and out to lift the printhead out that you want to change

Now for your new printhead:

- Before you install it, shake it back and forth 6 times as shown to shake up and mix the ink that's pre-filled in the cartridge.

- Pull the orange covers and plugs off/out as shown

- Carefully slot the printhead into the position vacated by the old one. You may find that you need to slot it in by angling it slightly but be patient...

Once the new printhead is in position (check the other printhead to check they're the same level ie: that the new printhead is all the way in).

- Close the blue flap back into the closed position

- Close the main lid

The printer will then begin a priming routine and after a few minutes you can start to use your printer again..

Canon iP100 Portable Printer

On the front of the (printhead)cover is a "hole", with that you can lift the cover .
The printhead will move to the center and you can change a cartridge.
To change the printhead if necessary you can squeez the little gray handles next to the cartridges ( one left of the CLI-36 and one right of the PGI-35) , lift the printhead handle and the printhead can be changed.

HP D135 - replaced printhead - still doesn't print in that color

try this link : I followed the directions and fixed the problem. the instructions that came with the new printhead weren't really complete.

Here's essentially all I did for my fix - Opened the printer top, turned the printer off. Removed the "bad" printhead, cleaned the metal contacts on the printhead and printer with windex. Closed the printer. Turned it on. waited for it to reset. Opened the printer. Turned the printer off again. Installed the printhead. Closed the lid. Plugged the printer in again. When it was ready I accessed the HP toolbox and alligned the printheads and cleaned the printheads. It worked. Here's a link with photos.

Printhead replacement

I don't just change the printheads, go to utilities and recover printheads.
If all printheads are playing up, che3ck the magenta cleaner, if it's over full it can cause all printheads to fail, this info was taken from a page on the HP web page, but ?I can't remeber where.
