No Interior lights.

I have had the relay for the interior lights replaced by the dealership 8 times now. I will have interior lights for about a week. The next time I turn the car on - no lights. Also have had light in the odometer that went out and then after about 2 weeks came back on. I think I have a lemon.

I would check the headlight switch. I cant believe the dealer would keep replacing the relay without checking something else. Obviously something is blowing the relay. Short in the switch,or a bad wire.

Where is the location of the battery saver relay on 2004 Ford Ranger Edge 3.0L V6

Principles of Operation
Interior Lighting The interior lighting is broken down into two groups: the courtesy lamps and the illuminated entry lamps. Both lighting features interact with the courtesy light arbitrator. The battery saver is also listed in this section.
Courtesy Lighting The courtesy lamps consist of the dome lamp and/or map lights. The courtesy lamps can be activated by the GEM using the panel dimmer switch, or by any ajar door. The courtesy lamps will shut off when the doors are closed and the illuminated entry feature is not active, or when the vehicle speed is greater than 8 kph (5 mph). The interior lamps will not be reactivated until the vehicle speed is less than 5 kph (3 mph) and a new door open warning lamp switch signal is received. The inputs are:
  • ignition switch position
  • driver door ajar switch
  • front passenger door ajar switch
  • rear left door ajar switch
  • rear right door ajar switch
  • vehicle speed switch (VSS)
The outputs are:
  • battery saver relay
  • interior lamp relay

Where is the interior light relay on 2001 ford windstar

Your interior lights are controlled by the GEM - generic electronic module !
Battery Saver The battery saver relay is controlled by the generic electronic module (GEM) and is located in the fuse junction panel. The battery saver relay is designed to supply B+ voltage to the following:
  • dome and map lamp switches
  • visor lamps
  • glove box lamp switch
  • interior lamp switch
  • interior courtesy lamp relay
  • delayed accessory relay
The function of the battery saver relay is to prevent excessive battery drain by interior lighting circuits. The GEM supplies a ground signal to the battery saver relay anytime one of the wake-up inputs of the GEM is activated to operate the battery saver relay. A wake-up command is sent when:
  • any door becomes ajar or is opened or closed.
  • the ignition key is inserted or removed.
  • the ignition switch is turned from OFF to RUN.
  • the ignition switch is turned from OFF to ACC.
  • a wake-up request is received from the remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module (if equipped).
  • The GEM will maintain the ground input with ignition in RUN or for 40 minutes from the last input activation with ignition in the OFF position. After 40 minutes the ground signal is discontinued.
This de-engergizes the battery saver relay preventing B+ voltage supply to the controlled switches and circuits.

2002 ford expedition interior lights are not on what fuse is it?

Courtesy Lamps - central junction box. fuse # F1.21 that goes to interior lamp relay in the instrument cluster and F.24 this fuse powers battery saver relay .
Interior Lighting The interior light system consists of the following:
  • front map lamp assembly
  • front door courtesy lamp
  • generic electronic module (GEM)
  • glove box lamp assembly
  • central security module
  • interior lamp switch
  • interior lamp relay
  • illuminated vanity mirrors (Navigator only)
  • reading lamp assembly
  • rear courtesy lamp
  • running board lamp
  • underhood lamp assembly
  • The generic electronic module (GEM) illuminates the interior lamps when an unlock signal is received from the remote anti-theft personality central security module. The illuminated entry feature will be canceled when any of the following conditions are met:
    • 25 seconds have elapsed since the illuminated entry feature was activated and the interior lamp control is not activated (door ajar or courtesy lamp switch on).
    • The GEM receives a request from the central security module (remote transmitter lock button pressed) and the interior lamp control is not activated.
    • The ignition is in the RUN or START position and the interior lamp control is not activated.
The GEM will illuminate the interior lamps when any door is open or ajar. The interior lamps are; the dome lamp, the rear cargo lamp, the door courtesy lamp and the side rail lamps. The courtesy lamps will shut off when the doors are closed and the illuminated entry feature is not active or when the vehicle speed is greater than 5 mph (8 km/h). The interior lamps will not be reactivated until the vehicle speed is less than 3 mph (5 km/h) and a new door open warning lamp switch is received.
The GEM controls the interior lamps illuminated entry function by activating the interior lamp relay.
  • You have an electronic control module and relays involved in the operation of these lights also !

Battery drains if interior light fuse is plugged into fuse box.

I'd remove panel as/if necessary so that I could remove connector at power trunk latch, and see what happens from there. If interior lights work o.k. and no drain, then you found your source of drain/short.

    Map light fuse on 2008 f 350????

The interior map lamps are powered buy the battery saver relay ( non serviceable relay ) Which is powered by Fuse #25 ( cab fuse panel ).
This is for the engine compartment and illuminated vanity lamps, as well as the map lights.

The FET ( Field-Effect Transistor ) shows the fuse #9 also on it. ( marked interior lighting ), which power the interior lamps ( door / switch ).

Could be a few things if both those fuses are OK.

    1. The map / interior lamp combos are usually dual element bulbs, which means if the interior lamps ( door or dimer switch on headlamp panel ) are OK, it could still be a burn out bulb.

    2. The FET is having an issue from a dead short ( blown bulb or dead short to ground ). Until the short is correct, the FET will not turn back on.

Start with checking Fuse #9 ( marked as Fuse #8 in the diagram, but that shows headlamp ), which is to the interior lamps, and drives 1 side of the FET.

    Interior lights stay on

Any time something stays on that hasn't ben turned on then you should look at the relay that controls that component. The relay is stuck in the closed position and feeding power to the lights. Have the interior light relay replaced and that should fix it. Hope this helps. Good luck.

    Fuse or what

Your multifunction switch on the steering column controls your exterior lights. The GEM module controls the interior lights and other stuff. If bad, it would not blow fuses. WHich fuse blows?
Your Ford dealer might be familiar with this issue, so call the service dept and ask them and get a quote. It may be wiring.
    reoprt back.

    • The high beams are inoperative
    • Circuitry.
    • Multifunction switch.
    • Go To Pinpoint Test C .

    --------------------------------------------------------------
    Principles of Operation
Generic Electronic Module (GEM) The generic electronic module (GEM) receives inputs from the following:
    • door ajar switches
    • liftgate ajar switch (wagon)
    • liftgate glass switch (wagon)
    • headlamp switch
    • keyless entry keypad switches
    • the powertrain control module (PCM) (vehicle speed signal)
    • ignition switch
    • remote keyless entry transmitter
The GEM uses these inputs to control the output to the battery saver relay and interior lamp relay. Both relays are integral to the central junction box (CJB) and cannot be accessed directly.
Interior Lighting Systems The GEM grounds the battery saver relay and interior lamp relay coils when any door ajar switch or the headlamp switch is closed. The interior lamp relay then supplies power to the interior lamp circuit. Vehicle speed must be less than 15 kph (9 mph) for the GEM to ground the interior lamp relay. The interior lamps will remain illuminated for a period of up to 25 seconds after all doors are closed or until the ignition is switched from the OFF position, or the GEM receives a vehicle speed signal. Actuating the interior lights from the headlamp switch will operate at any time.
Illuminated Entry Illuminated entry is activated when a keyless entry keypad switch provides ground on the GEM input or when the GEM receives an unlock signal from the remote keyless entry key fob. The GEM then provides ground to the battery saver and interior lamp relay coils. Illuminated entry is deactivated when the GEM receives a lock signal from the remote keyless entry key fob or if the GEM receives ground inputs from the keyless entry keypad switch lock code. Illuminated entry will also be deactivated when the GEM receives input voltage from the ignition switch.
Battery Saver The battery saver is activated when the GEM is not receiving voltage input from the ignition switch (off position). The GEM will then provide ground to the battery saver relay coil for a maximum of 30 minutes depending on the state of the interior lamp switch inputs to the GEM. The energized battery saver relay switches voltage to the demand lamp circuit and the interior lamp relay coil. After time-out, the GEM removes ground to the battery saver relay disabling the demand lamp circuit.
Puddle Lamps The puddle lamp relay operates reverse from the battery saver relay and the interior lamp relay. The puddle lamp relay coil receives voltage when the ignition switch is in the START or RUN position, which disables the circuit to the puddle lamps.
    Inspection and Verification
    1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
    1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.
