Ther Are several screws on the bottom that need to be removed, including any that have a picture of a little keyboard or say ( K ). these are for the keyboard. Also remove the Battery, the HARD DRIVE and andy others that are there. There may be some on the back near the external video, mouse and keyboard ports that may need to be removed. Once you do this, you should be able to pry apart the frame. Depending on how its made, the keyboard should alos come out, you may have to remove the trim that goes around it. Remove the keyboard data ribon also.

Key a piece of paper and label where the screws go and how many because you dont want to forget any.

Removing cd rom

The optical (CD) drive on your Acer laptop connects to the side of the device and is accessed via the underside of the computer.
If you are having problems with the optical drive on your laptop you should address it as soon as possible, and one thing you may need to do is remove it.
The good news is that even if you aren't particularly tech savvy, you'll find that the process of removing and replacing your optical drive is relatively easy.
Turn your Acer off and remove any power cables that may be attached to the side of the unit. Turn your Acer upside down.
Slide the battery out of its compartment on the underside of the computer.

Locate the circular optical drive retaining screw on the underside of your laptop.
It is located just above the square WiFi compartment in the middle of the computer.

Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw and set it aside.
Grip the optical drive by its edge on the side of the computer and gently pull to remove it from the computer.
Slide a new optical drive into the computer, making sure the disk opening is facing out of the laptop.
Replace the optical drive screw.
Replace the CD Drive on an Acer Aspire 5000
The CD drive of the Acer Aspire 5000 is designed like most other laptop optical drives.
The CD drive is on the right-hand side of the computer and is attached with screws from the back of the case.
All you need to complete the task is a screwdriver.
To avoid electric shock or damage to the laptop, always ground your tools by touching them against a metal object like a table leg before using them on the computer.

Turn the Acer Aspire 5000 laptop off.
Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Remove the power cord from the power supply in the side of the laptop.
Flip the laptop over so you are looking at the bottom of the case.
Slide the battery pack off the top of the case.
You'll see the CD drive on the left-hand side of the laptop when you are looking at the bottom of the case.

Unfasten the screws that are holding the CD drive onto the laptop with a screwdriver. Slide the drive out of the case.
Slide the new CD drive into the case and secure it with the screws.
Place the battery pack in the laptop and turn the computer back over so it is sitting on its base. Plug the power cord into the power supply in the side of the laptop.
Plug the other end of the cord into the electrical outlet.

Power supply light flashes green then red

Power supply problems can be common in Hewlett Packard desktop computers, particularly older models.
While it is unsettling to find that your computer will not power on, it is often a simple problem that you can fix yourself.
Even if you cannot resolve the issue, you may be able to pinpoint it for the repair technician, thereby saving the repair shop time and yourself money.

Plug in a lamp to check to that the electrical outlet is live.
You can also plug the computer into another outlet.
Unplug your computer from any power strips or surge protectors and plug directly into the wall to see if these devices could be the problem.
Disconnect the power cord and any peripherals from your computer.
Press the power button and hold for five seconds.
Plug the power cord back in to see if the computer will now power on.

Disconnect the power cord and locate the red voltage selector switch on the back of your computer.
Push the switch in the opposite direction and wait five seconds.
Flip the switch back as failing to do this may damage the computer.
Plug the power cord back into the computer and electrical socket, and turn the computer on.
Power up the computer after removing all externally attached peripherals except for the monitor, keyboard and mouse.
Remove any recently installed internal components such as video cards, hard drives or memory modules.
If the machine powers on after this, the problem may be that the added devices need more power than your computer can deliver.
Upgrading the power supply should fix the problem.

Disconnect the power cord and press the power switch.
If it does not operate smoothly, you may need to replace it.
If it functions normally, it may have disconnected from the motherboard.
Put on an anti-static wristband to prevent static electricity from affecting the components inside your computer.
Remove the two or three screws on the back of the CPU to release the side panel.
You will either need a Phillips-head screwdriver or a flat-head screwdriver depending on your model.
For the entire outer case, you will have at least two screws on each side and two or three in the back.
Once you have removed these, you will be able to either slide the side panel off or pull back the entire casing.
Locate the color-coded wires from the back of the switch and trace them to the motherboard.
If one or more wires have disconnected from the motherboard, re-attach them manually to the connectors located on the motherboard. - bph06788_section_2

Automatically shut down and cant power on again

Try to remove the battery, and see if it will start up with only power cord. It could also maybe be caused by overheating, if you can start it when it has cooled down. If that is the case, you should remove dust inside and around the fan.

Everex stepnot va4300m, no power lights on at all and I have just tried new power supply

You will also need to check the DC jack where the power cord plugs into the laptop, & make sure that it is not loose or broken. If this turned out to be the case, you will need to have it replaced.
Also, test the laptop with the battery removed. Power it only from the power adapter & see if it will start. A bad battery could cause the laptop to not power up. If this turned out to be the case, you will need to replace the battery.

Wont charge

Hello there:
If the battery will not charge i would first try this unplug the cord from the laptop and remove the battery then get a q-tip and get some some rubbing alcohol and clean all of the battery terminals on both the battery and the laptop .
next make sure that they are really dry and clean then reinstall the battery and see if the machine will start up and if so then plug in the power cord and then see if after the laptop is fully running you should see the charging symbol on the task bar but if still nothing i would have to suspect that your battery is bad or that the charging system for the battery is bad and needs to be repaired in this case i would send the computer top a computer repair center for further repairs
If you still have the warranty i would use it igf you cant get it to work properly.
OK hope all of this is very helpful for you
Please keep me posted on how this is going ok?
Best regards Michael

My notebook refuses to turn on, i've switch outlets, double check that all connections are curretly connected, I've taken the battery off waited a few then put it back on - but still nothing, it just wont...

There are a few possible causes.
  • Your computer is coming on, but your screen is out and you just cant tell. You should see light come on and hear a few noises from the cd drive and hard drive.
  • Your power supply is bad (the corded thinggy)
  • Your battery is bad and has damaged the cord too.
  • The plug in the back of the computer is damaged (Possibly from a bad battery melting the connector)
  • You computer has lightning/surge damage and is just broken
  • The motherboard has failed completely
First, test the simple things.
  1. Remove your battery and try to start with only the cord.
  2. Check the plug that the power supply plugs into. Is it loose does it wiggle? It may need replaced/repaired
  3. Plug the power cord back in and wiggle do any of the light flicker? This may confirm step 2.
  4. Take your computer to a simple repair shop and see if they have a power supply you can try. REMOVE your battery first. If it works, great! Get the power supply.
  5. If none of these are the problem, leave the computer at the repair place for them to look at. There are a few other problems, but you probably cant check those yourself.

Turn off the pc, disconnect the power cord. Remove the battery. Leave it alone for a few minutes. Plug in the power cord (do not replace battery yet) and turn it on. If it works, turn it off, remove power cord and replace battery. Plug power cord back in and turn on pc again.
