I think i need some type of a back bearing for my maytag neptune mah3000aww, the belt wheel on the back of the tub is making an awful sound and the wheel is cutting into the back of the plastic tub, and the machine will not spin, it seems almost that it thinks it is off balance and keeps trying to correct itself, is there some type of bearing on the back of the tub that i need to replace?

Re: wash machine out of wack
There is two bearings and a seal normally you access them from the front of the machine.does the drum sound rough when you turn it by hand, also if the drum moves back and forward the bearing may be loose in the outer tank assy which is a problem because the new bearing will do the same thing.Hope this helps.

The noise could be from a loose wire harness, plastic purse-lock wire harness retainer on the upper hose hitting the top cover ir a plastic injector mold standoff on the outer tub bearing housing, also a flat spot in the belt could cause a tapping noise. Something between the outer tub and wash basket. I have had to remove items lodged in the drain tube between the pump and tub, like bra under wires. Sometimes you can squeeze the tube and feel objects the ate lodged. I always take the tube off the tub side and run my finger all the way down to the pump impeller to make sure. I also check the I can spin the impeller and the nothing is in the pump. Hard to say with out being there. Where do you think the noise is coming from top , bottom , left , or right side?
It sounds like the drum bearings may need replacing.
This is not a small job, so be sure of what you're doing before you attempt to fix it yourself.
Please feel free to get back to me for instructions on replacing the seal and bearings.
Your tub seal leaked water into the tub bearings causing them to fail. Maytag only offers the bearings as part of the outer tub assembly and the repair can be pricey. A little research may turn up a service company in your area that has the tool to replace only the tub bearing. The repair becomes more affordable that way.
I suspect that you have a leveling bracket come loose. Many of the Maytag washers also use a large concrete block fastened underneath to help balance things. Look to see if yours is this type. If so then the steel rod holding thinge that holds it in place may have come loose...should be easy to put back correctly but will require some muscle. Most of the Sears Kenmore units have springs that can come loos from their connections and require re hooking but I do not think you have this type of unit for a Maytag. Hope this helped.
there are 2 wires going back to the board. They connect to a blue harness. Make sure their is continuity thru the harness. It connects to 3 out of balance swithches. Also check to see if lock light comes on.
