You need to download the sound driver from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: -

Compaq Presario C765TU Audio Driver

Hi,

For a Compaq Presario C765TU Notebook PC running Windows XP, audio drivers would be for Conexant High-Definition Audio (sp32823.exe). Importantly, SoftPaq Number SP31994, "Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA)Bus Driver for High Definition Audio," (or later) must be installed onthe notebook before installing SP32823.
  • sp31994.exe 1/1 (6.12M) (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp31501-32000/sp31994.exe)
  • sp32823.exe 1/1 (6.12M) (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32823.exe)
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Help

Having two O/S systems on a single Hard drive can have unforseen results, i did it with XP and XP 64 bit edition and it worked for a while. I would recomend formating and re-installing only the one you want or use the most.
