Streets won't load

I put the Streets and Trips disc in the drive and it will not start. I follow the manual and type in e:\setup_ST,exe and it will not start. It tells me to put a disc in the drive. A disc is already in the drive. I reinsert the disc and get the same message.

First, on my computer the E drive IS the correct drive for CD's

    I am running Windows XP.

And the comma was a typo in the e mail.....in actual practice, I correctly typed in a period.

I double clicked on the E drive with the Streets disc in the drive...nothing happened. Interestingly, when I moved the cursor over the E drive, I got O for content. What does that mean? This is a brand new disc.

I followed the loading instructions. It will not load automatically. I typed D:\setup_ST.exe I get a busy light for only a few seconds and I can get the hour glass but the drive busy light is not doing anything. What next?

I am having the same issue with Streets & Trips 2008. The disc is
loaded but I continue to get an error, (Please insert a Disc Into Drive
D:.) which is my DVD drive. I have tried everything. I have checked
other discs and they load with no issue. This sucks, $40.00 and I am
not sure If I can return it as it is an open item. I guess I will need
to prove to the store there is a disc error.

It is possible that in your computer, the disc drive is not the "E:\" drive. For instance, on my computer, the disc drive is the "D:\" drive - you would just substitute the drive letters.

What version of Windows are you running? - it could make a big difference.

Also, you can try double-clicking on "My Computer," and then double-clicking on the disc drive - it will cause the CD to load better than entering in "e:\setup_ST,exe ". Also, check your spelling - there should be a "." (period) in between ST and exe, not a comma.

Look on the box to see if Windows Vista supports this software. If so, I would suspect you have a deficiency in the hardware. (i.e. Not a powerful enough video card, not enough memory or not a powerful enough processor)

HOw can I reinstall Streets and Trips 2008 when my disk isn't working? I have the product key.

I'm think Streets and Trips 2008 was really just an update to the 2007 version.

This means there wasn't really a download for S&T 2008 - It was a download of 2007 plus an update file to 2008. If you can find the FREE TRIAL version of Streets and Trips 2007 from somewhere and the 2008 update, you will still be able to use your existing product key to upgrade it to a full version again.

You might be able to get a disc-image file of the CD supplied with the 2008 boxed version from somewhere like Rapidshare. Try a rapidshare search at www.rapidshare.net or www.filecrop.com

Beware versions supplied with a cracked product key as using them constitutes software piracy. As long as you install it and register it with your own product key, it's legit.

Unfortunately, you can only download the current 2010 version of S&T from Microsoft although map updates are still available for the 2008 version.

Streets & Trips 2008 stopped working. Now all I get is an error that states the registry files were not copied correctly. Looked on line and tried several fixes for this problem but nothing worked. ...

Right click on the program icon and click Run as Administrator. Type in the Admin password. Should start with no problem. You'll need to do this every time you start the program.

[Files Needed]
The file 'Asms' on Windows XP Professional CD-ROM is needed. Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.
This issue may occur if the Setup program cannot communicate with the CD-ROM drive.
To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method for your computer.
Hard disk formatted with FAT or FAT32 file system
If the hard disk is formatted with the FAT file system or with the FAT32 file system, follow these steps:
Use a Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) Startup disk with CD-ROM drivers to restart the computer.
Copy the Xcopy.exe tool from the Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM, the Windows Millennium Edition (Me) CD-ROM, or the hard disk to the Windows Startup disk. To do this, use the appropriate method.
Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM
Insert the Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM in the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then at the command prompt type the following lines, pressing ENTER after you type each line, where cd-rom is the drive letter of the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive:
c:
copy cd-rom:\win98\smartdrv.exe
copy cd-rom:\tools\oldmsdos\xcopy*.*
Windows Millennium Edition (Me) CD-ROM

Hard disk
At the command prompt, type the following lines where drive is the drive letter of the hard disk where Windows is installed, and then press ENTER after you type each line:
c:
copy drive:\windows\smartdrv.*
copy drive:\windows\xcopy*.*
Eject the Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition (Me) CD-ROM, and then insert the Windows XP Professional CD-ROM.
Copy the I386 folder and all its subfolders to the hard disk. To do this, type the following lines at the command prompt where cd-rom is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive, and drive is the drive letter of the hard disk, and then press ENTER after you type each line:

Restart the computer, and then start the Setup program again.
When you receive the error message, click Browse, and then type the path of the I386 folder on the hard disk.
Note You may be prompted several times for the location of this folder. If Browse is not available, see the "Hard disk formatted with NTFS file system" section.
Hard disk formatted with NTFS file system
If the hard disk is formatted with the NTFS file system and you are upgrading an earlier version of Windows, use one of the following methods.
Method 1
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
When you receive the error message, press SHIFT+F10 to start a command session.
Type regedit.exe, and then press ENTER.
Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
On the File menu, click Load Hive, and then load %Windir%\System32\Config\System.sav.
When you are prompted to specify a name, type Test.
Locate and then click the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Test\ControlSet1\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Delete the UPPERFILTERS and LOWERFILTERS registry keys.
Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the other ControlSet# keys under the Test hive.
Click File, and then click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
If the path in the error message is the correct drive letter for the CD-ROM drive, click OK to continue the Setup program.
If you receive the error message again, the Setup program cannot correctly read from the CD-ROM drive, or the path information is incorrect. In this case, restart your computer and let the Setup program resume.
Method 2
If you cannot start Regedit.exe at the command prompt, and there is another available partition where you can install Windows on the hard disk, follow these steps:
Install Windows in the other partition.
Start the new installation of Windows, and then start Regedit.exe.
Follow the steps in method 1, but load the System.sav hive from the original Windows folder.
Method 3
If you are not using a retail Windows XP CD-ROM with a hologram (for example, if you are using a burned CD-ROM), try to run the Setup program from a retail CD-ROM with a hologram. To verify this, start the computer by using Recovery Console, and then check the C:\$win_nt$.~ls folder. Look for the Asms folder. If the folder is missing or the files that it contains are zero bytes, the CD-ROM was not burned correctly.
For additional information about how to use Recovery Console, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

I bought Streets and Trips recently. I downloaded it to my computer. Then my computer died. I now have a new computer. How do I go about downloading it onto the new computer without paying for it twice?

You can use recovery software to recover setup from your previous computer or make hard drive of your previous computer salve to this new computer and install. But if you have lost setup files then you need to contact website from where you downloaded to get your new copy.
Thanks

Hello,

Right click My Computer, select Properties, choose System Restore and turn off SR on all drives.

Then, do all the manual removals you posted before. Then, go to this url:
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
and run the full virus scan on all drives.

Because the files you note as infected are actually required by XP to run, you may not actually be able to go online, still try not to remove those files if possible, once they are removed you will have to restart your machine with the XP Disc and tell it to install, load any specific drivers needed such as those for your raid array if you have one, only when Setup tells you Windows is already installed, select Repair instead of New and Windows will heal your system.

So, because of those critical files being corrupted, don't be too surprised that when your online scan asks you to clean your system that your system freezes or halts at some point. Just be prepared with your Windows disc and Product Key.

I'll be available for any follow up questions you may have just comment back to me by clicking on my user name and then Ask Me.

Regards,
Worldvet
