I have an d845gvsr motherboard and my motherboard sometimes detects the ram and sometimes it doesn't. when removed ram from the slot motherboard does not even give beep sounds. but after shaking the cabinet it detects the ram and starts working but after short time it hangs up or just show a blank screen and sometime at the boot screen just hang. then after pressing restart button, motherboard again does not detects ram. i have configurd everything from bios to default settings, changed ram, changed power supply, checked hard drive for errors. i am using windows xp pro sp2.

Many times (after normal shut down) doesn't start. screen remains blank, lights near caplock and num lock keys are flashing every five second and still i can hear the fan running sound.

It sounds to me like you may have a defective motherboard or RAM. RAM is a fairly easy problem to troubleshoot. It can be quickly and easily replaced. If the motherboard is defective it is often cheaper to just purchase a new laptop. If the laptop has been discontinued the motherboard will be very expensive(close to the cost of the laptop) or irreplaceable. Any experience Tech should be able to diagnose this within a few minutes with the laptop present.

I have an ASUS P5V800 motherboard. I have been having problems with the computer hanging at random times during start up. Sometimes it hangs before the mem test, sometimes during hard drive detect,...

Have you tried cleaning the connections and as well as the motherboard? Based on my experience, dust, especially moist dust that has build up inside the CPU tower can cause malfunctions. What i usually do is i dismantle the CPU tower and clean the components inside with soft-brissled paint brush like heat sink and fan, motherboard, graphics card, etc. When in come to the RAM i clean the pins with pencil eraser like shown in the image below.

and re-assembling them again. hope this helps
