Question about MSI AP11B (MS-6809)
I have had dsl for about 4 years. I have an agere systems AC'97 dsl modem. Just yesterday I bought a linksys wireless router, model WRT54G.
I followed all instructions on CD and have the ethernet from the modem going into the internet on the router and then in spot #1 I have another ethernet out to my laptop (which is running Windows XP Pro). The installation stops at connecting to the internet and says it cannot find the internet.
Normally I simply have the ethernet connected from the modem to my laptop and I am ready to go, no passwords or login or dial up, it's just always on.
So, I have turned on my wireless (internal in my laptop) and I can see a (g) Secured Wireless network which I believe is mine. I can even connect with an excellent signal but it will not obtain in IP address. It displays 0.0.0.0
What can I do to get the IP address assigned? I have only basic knowledge of computers so I need step-by-step instructions please.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
You have to go in your router's setup screen (192.168.1.1) default password is admin, then you need to select the internet connection type as PPPoE, thype your username, which could be your primary email with your ISP, and your password, which could be the last 7 digits of your home phone number. If you cannot figure out your username/password, contact your ISP.
also make sure that your DHCP server is enabled in the router setup menu.
If you want to set up your Wireless security (highly recommended) go to http://www.cas411.com/ShowArticle.aspx?ID=68 to see how to do that step by step.
Hope this helps!
