Gateway M6866 laptop lags when changing websites or pages? This happens even with simple sites like yahoo.

  • Anonymous Mar 26, 2010

Its a Duo core and has 4 GB memory. My netbook does not have this problem and I go to the same sites. It was running Vista but I upgraded to Windows 7. It doesn't matter whether I am a 3G connection, cable or the wireless at work.

Also I do not have apps running, the only thing I installed after the upgrade is Adaware and AVG. So the harddrive is pretty much empty, no music or pictures or MSOffice.

Most likey cause is either a slow connection or a lot of folk on line at the time. If you have less than a T1 connection, heavy traffic sites such as yahoo.com or sites heavy in kbs, (sites containing viseo or flash intros) will take along time to load. If you dont have sufficient memory in your computer that will slow down internet browsing too.

Ok, you have all the gear required, so it's either your HDD is getting full or you need to increase the size of your page file. In case you need information on how to do this, search for 'page file' in "help & support" The explanation there is quite helpful.

When i used my internet i cant log into the facebook or in yahoo so i would that to slove my problem as quickly as sooon.

Try to find out that the problem is not from your browser. If you have more than one browser, try logging in through them. If the problem persists, then perhaps the site is experiencing some lag. Again you didnt say if this problem just started, or if it has been going on since you started using your system. Is it only facebook and yahoo that's experiencing these difficulties, or other sites too. If other sites dont open, the you would need to change your browser. But if they do, I'll advice that you give facebook and yahoo some time, then try again, cos it happens at times.
I hope this is helpful. Pls do let me know.

Iwant to switch back to yahoo.com

You want yahoo website to be your homepage?Go to yahoo.com, then go to toolbar at the top of browser, and click on "Tools", then "Internet Options". At the top of the pop-up, you'll see a "Home Page" box. The address of the site that you are currently at (http://www.yahoo.com) is there. Press the "Use Current" button to specify this page as your home page. "Please Post back to let us know if we helped" Kindly rate this article

Windows 7 Gateway M6866 laptop freezes intermittently, HDD @ 100%

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

May I ask which antivirus you are using? I also have Windows 7 Ultimate and I went thru every single antivirus out there just to find one I was happy with. I had the same problems but I have a desktop. Even though all the ones I installed said they were comatible with Windows 7.

I tried Norton = Horrible lockups
Panda security = Slow bootup
Trend Micro = No comment
Microsoft Security essential = Ran good but got a virus right away
AVG and Avast = Slow boot up

I ended up going with Kaspersky as it was the only one that didn't give me any issues,

I think this may have something to do with the implementation of the rootkit scans that all of these antiviruses have integrated into the software but I am still researching.

How much RAM do you have and what is the processor speed?

Each time i try to sign in to view my yahoo email a page comes up saying internet explorer cannot show the page.

Does this happen only on Yahoo? Try using a different browser like Mozilla Firefox.
I suggest you switch over to Firefox. It's WAY better than Explorer.
