I just recently purchased a HP computer with the rc410m, I reformatted the hard drive with XP Pro, because it came with XP Home, I had sound with that operating system, but have none now. Would like to know where I can find the drivers so my sound card will work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your Motherboard should have come with a disc which has all the necessary drivers. You can go to Microsoft Updates, they may detect your on board driver need. Or, when all else fails, purchase a PCI Sound Card which will have a driver included. You will need to disable the onboard soundcard in your BIOS if you go this route.
Sound card may be bad. Uninstall all software and drivers for the sound card. Remove the sound card and clean the gold contacts gently with a pink pencil eraser to remove oxidation and make them shiny. install sound card in a different slot if available. Install driver and try again. test with headphones too. If still just static, try newer sound card driver. If still no good get a new sound card.
I had this problem on a computer recently. This particular motherboard may be needing the driver on the Windows XP SP2 disk. Your motherboard may have been made to use Microsoft SATA drivers. Othewise, there would have been a driver disk that came with the motherboard to let it see that SATA hard drive. If it's a new hard drive, you have to reinstall the O/S so use a disk new enough to have SP2 included.
Download the Microsoft UAA drivers uninstall all other sound drivers then install the UAA ones and reboot Go to device manager and upgrade sound driver will go on net and if possible find and install them. Worked on my compaq presario.and a lot of other computers with on board sound
