Red Screen Hello, When I boot up our NEC E 2000 Laptop all I get is a red screen with symbols all over it and that's it. Can you tell me what the problem is and how to fix it? Mick

It turned out to be a security issue with the partition that NEC puts on there.
The only way we found around it, was reformat the entire drive as one and start from scratch, bit of a bugger really........

Well my next question would be does it show that it is checking the memory or indicate that the BIOS is checking the system.

Red screen

Internal Battery? You mean the CMOS battery (silver battery about the size of a nickel that is on the motherboard)?

Never heard of any dependencies of the CMOS Battery and the screen. Are you talking about a laptop? On a laptop you would have to take the screen off in some cases to get to the CMOS battery on it's motherboard. So, if you're talking laptop, then either the LCD Cable to the screen is not in good, the LCD Inverter cables (sits under the screen and has 2 cables in it, one from the screen and one from the the motherboard) is not in good. Remove the cables and plug them back in. Put a piece of tape across where the cable plugs meet on the back of the LCD Screen. One other possibility is you might have broken the lcd cable or mishandled the lcd screen and it is going bad.

Compaq presario 56000cl won't boot up / red light flashing in the back.

When you press the power button do you hear the fan running, hear the disk drive running, see any lights, do you hear the cd drive click once and see the light come on briefly on the cd drive door? If you see all the aforementioned then it is surely trying to boot. Computers don't boot mainly because of the following problems. 1) Bad Power Cord or Power Supply. 2) Electro Static Buildup. 3) Bad Motherboard 4) Bad boot or system files.
Remove the Power Cord and the battery if it's a laptop. Press and Hold the Power Button for 30 Seconds. Then replace only the Power Cord and try hitting the Power Button. If it boots you had an Electro Static Buildup. If you have boot or system files that are missing or corrupt normally the system will be telling you that on an error message that appears on the screen. Does your system show you anything on the screen when you press the Power Button? If not you have a Power Supply or Motherboard issue.

My screen on my laptop is broken. Can i plug a monitor into my laptop?

1) connect your external monitor to the laptop and then switch the monitor on
2) boot up the laptop
3) after it has successfully booted, you need to identify which function key toggles the external monitor on/off
4) you should be able to do this by holding down the Fn key and trying each of the F keys in turn, waiting a few seconds after pressing each one
5) begin by holding down "Fn" + "F3", "Fn" + "F4", "Fn" + "F5" etc.

If this doesn't work, it may be worth examining all the keys and look for a small monitor symbol on one of the keys. If you find this symbol, hold down the Fn key and then hit the corresponding key with the monitor symbol.

How to install now os on my nec laptop and could not damage my laptop

To install a new OS like windows 7/Vista/XP set your laptop to boot from CD/DVD in BIOS put the disk in and boot your laptop then follow the on screen instructions. This will normally wipe the hole laptop unless you are planing on dual booting in this case you will need a free partition or hard drive to install the 2nd OS and it normal cases have the lower OS installed 1st

Screen

I assume your computer boots up, the hard disk spins and the hard disk LED light flashes.
If so then you may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
