I have a rca p52939 big screen tv 52". We had a problem at first with the picture distorted (hour glass look). Then today we have no picture, no sound, power button doesn't turn tv on. It makes a clicking noise when it is plugged in. If you unplug it the noise slows down and stops.

Same problem as above, picture bowed top and bottom, convergence

Projection sets have two very common problems outlined below.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. The TV can also shut down when the convergence starts to fail.

Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith, RCA and others.

You can more info and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from TV Repair Kits using the link at the end of this article.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped or bowed
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Hi I have a 52" RCA big screen tv that is only 3 years old however we turned it on today and it is showing some red blue and green lines and the picture is blurry

Hello clara7,

This denotes a convergence problem. I would suggest that first you enter the menu of your TV ad try to do an auto converge on your set, if this does not work I would suspect that the convergence ICs have gone bad and need to be replaced. I would suggest that you have a qualified TV repair technician replace the convergence ICs in this set.I hope this helps,Shuttle83http://www.electron-age-technologies-llc.com

RCA P52939 TV

There is no "card". There is an IC that outputs the sound to the speakers. When you get the set, see if there are any other specifics that you can list and we'll look for a common cause.

RCA projection tv Model # P52927

You need to re-solder the circuit board that contains the STK convergence modules. They're on the center circuit board attached to an aluminum heat sink that's about 8" long and 6" tall, about dead center in the circuit board. You may be able to recreate the problem (hour glass effect) by gently moving the heat sink (which the modules are connected to). This gives the hour glass effect on the picture and the advanced convergence screen. This is an indication that the modules pins aren't solidly connected (meaning soldered) properly. Remove the circuit board and clean the old solder off & resolder the modules pins to the circuit board reconnected the board and then retest by again pushing on the heat sink. This is a caused by a minimum effort (a.k.a. minimum cost) solder job, probably done in some 3rd world sweat shop. The "factory" job was good enough for 3-4 years but the heat (and these modules do create a lot of heat) and stress created from repeated use eventually takes it's toll, weakens the pin connections and our problem occurs. take the appropriate cautions working around the high voltage of the set & use a non-conduting piece of wood to push the heat sink when we doing tests. Best of luck, hope ya fix it.

Rca p52939

Does the Tv pick up a signal ? ( picture/sound ) If not, you may have a tuner problem as the screen will default to blue with no signal apparent. Could also be a cable problem. Hope this helps
