well, i will suggest you to remove the battery and insert the power line with out the battery and switch on, if the computer continue then i will asure you that the battery is dead but if the system not booting then maybe the charger is dead.
Maybe you can repair that but many people encoutered same error they immeidiately replace it.

you may have had a surge on your charger, i'd unplug it and try a different outlet. After you unplug it, remove the battery for about a minute, then when at the new location plug the battery back in and then the charger. see if that works. if it doesn't it's possible that your charger just died. Did you happen to look and see how much battery you had available when it died?
Sometimes this is caused by a bad battery, you could try taking the battery out and run it off the mains, however, with this make of laptop, like Gateway and Hi Grades, the issue probably lies in a burned out or faulty power board. The flashing light on the charger indicates that power is being, for want ofa better expression, "rejected" by the laptop... current has nowhere to go, so it is not flowing and the blinking light is indicating this.
As to repairs.. suggest it needs stripping down, oddly enough, the problem might just be a simple short caused by a screw working loose and shorting out a component
You may be experiencing down time. Phone your Internet Service Provider and ask them to check connectvity of your line. They may reset it, this I Ideal. On your Router the DSL/Internet light should be lit, if this is not the case then resetting the line with the help of your Internet Service Provider, will work. Also make sure all the cables are pluged in, ethernet cables are well as the telephone spliter. Green light should show on ethernet ports, 1-4, which ever is pluged in.
Did it work before and now it doesn't or is this the first time connecting with this Computer/laptop, to this Router/Internet?

Try and go into safe mode and select system restore. To get into safe mode press F8 before as the computer begins to boot. When you get to safe mode press start and then select program files and select accerioes, under that heading select system tools and click on system restore. Follow instructions and select 2 days or the lastest restore point in order to restore system back to it's original state.
If you cannot reboot at all to safe mode, you will require to restore the system or reinstall windows using you xp, vista or recovery disks for laptop. Good Luck!
as long as your cable is plugged in before you power the laptop an tv it should pick it up if not go into the settings for your monito and make sure it is set up to duel display any further help post it here
