Kenmore Oven- The oven doesnt heat or light at all. If I sent it to 350 degrees; should i still smell gas?

I beleive this model has an electric igniter, You may have to change this they sometimes just wear out, or it's just simply your pilot light is out and you need to relight it, hope this helps.

Maytag gas oven takes a long time heat and smells of gas.

Important---if you smell gas--I'd be very very careful---could be your control valve or lines to it are malfunctioning or leaking. You might have to call in an expert repair person. How old is the oven? Some preliminary checks you might make are: Do you have a pilot lite or preheaters on the unit? If a pilot lite, make sure it is lit. An unlit pilot lite could sometimes give the smell of gas if malfunctioning. If so, there is is a procedure for lighting the pilot lite--check your user or installation manual. If you have pre-heaters make sure they are lighting up. Normally you have one for the top broiler burner, and one for the bottom oven burner. Check your preheater(s) by selecting either broiler or oven and visually checking to see if they are warming up. After 15 seconds or so, they should be turning bright red. You will see some light coming from them. Check one pre-burner at a time. If they do not come on quickly, shut off the associated valve. Again, be very, very careful with any buildup of gas. It could cause an explosion. At the least it could make you sick.

When i turn on oven all i smell is gas i cleaned with a wire brush still nothing. also is the pilot light always have to be on and can you see it when oven is off

Most gas ovens that aren't electronic ignition usually have a pilot light.
Usually one in the oven area and one for each burner. (Sometimes shared between two burners.)
These pilot lights must lit at all times...otherwise it won't light up and you'll smell gas.
Usually the pilot light is in the very back of the oven and can be seen with the broiler drawer opened.

There is a small set screw located at the pilot light assembly in the oven and also at every burner.
This allows you to adjust pilot light up or down, thereby letting you set pilot light flame to a level that doesn't get blown out by a draft...or you can turn it off completely.

If you use that set screw to turn off the pilot light gas, you'd need to strike a match to light the oven or burners everytime you needed them.

Sometimes my oven heats up sometimes it doesnt its a natural gas oven what do i do

Depends on the type of pilot. If it is standing pilot I would look at replacing the thermophile. If it has auto ignition it most likely is an aging ignitor. Look for parts manuals and more here: PARTSTOWN

It won't heat up... even though there is a flame

Check The Power Source

If the gas oven won't turn on, the first thing to do is check the power source. Most modern gas ovens are electrically powered. Check to make sure the oven is plugged in and the breaker isn't tripped.

Check the Heat Source

When a gas oven won't heat, the pilot light can also be set too low; if the pilot is lit but the oven isn't catching, adjust the flame.

Newer gas ovens use electric ignitors that produce sparks. If the oven doesn't heat, the ignitor could be broken.

Electric ignighter does not come on in the oven at all

In most cases it is the ignitor itself. Eledtricity goes thru the ignitor and as it gets hot it allows more electricity thru to the gas coils, allowing them to open and let the gas go thru. The ignitors do get weak and will glow but that is all. Not enough electricity can get to the gas valve solenoids and let gas thru. Find a local parts dealer and give them your make and model # to order the part.

Can I still light an oven even if the electric pilot doesnt work

Looks like your oven has a "glow" coil. That being the case, you will not be able to light the oven without power. It has to glow to open the valve, and there is no override for this. Sorry.
About the cord, you could install a plug on the cord, or simply replace the cord. (I realize you say you are trying to get one). Other than this, turkey on the grill is always good.

The pilot light for the oven went out.

Relighting Your Furnace's Pilot Light

furnace1.jpg - Turn off the gas at the main valve at your utility box - Wait five to ten minutes for gas fumes to waft away - Get a long match—yes, a fireplace match, not a standard match - Set the gas valve on your furnace to "pilot" - Press the red button as you hold the match to the pilot valve - Keep pressing the red button for 30-60 seconds so the pilot can heat the thermocouple. Release the button and see if the pilot remains lit - If pilot goes out, wait five to ten minutes and repeat the process - Once the pilot stays lit, turn the main gas valve back on - If the pilot light continues to go out, call a technician, who may need to adjust or replace your thermocouple or adjust your pilot

Burners on gas stove work but oven and broiler not working

Most ovens, unless they have an electric igniter (does it go tick tick tick when plugged in and turned on? If so, it has an electic ignition.) have a pilot light. In order to keep gas from flowing out, and to prevent a possible explosion when the pilot light has gotten put out, they have an electric thermocouple on them that shuts off the gas when it gets cold. Plug the cord back in, and relight your pilot light by holding the lighter (I recommend a fireplace match or bbq lighter, not a cigarette lighter to prevent singed knuckle hairs!) over the thermocouple for a couple of minutes.
