Samsung HCM5525W Pic is Bowing, Convergence Prob, Where to Start?

Yesterday as we were having a wild snowstorm, complete with thunder and lightning, out of the blue my TV picture started looking like this
http://star.walagata.com/w/aliciarose/Picture_005_1.jpg
Red/blue/yellow/green are all out of wack on the tv, none of them meet where they should. As well, the top and bottom of the screen is "bowed" towards the center.
To make matters worse, I bought the TV from Best Buy 4 yrs ago as a floor model, MINUS the remote.
I can manually get to the convergence menu, It only lists red, blue and Perfect.
Using my cable remote on TV I can try the following:
Perfect blinks for a few minutes then fixes nothing.
Red will move but ....will not line up with anything but the middle box since the picture is now bowed, once I exit, the tv picture does not change, even tho I line up the red with the box in the center. Blue will not move at all. The manual says there is a green option, however I cannot find it, theres only red, blue and perfect.
Is this something I can fix if I buy another remote? Or is it something inside the tv that needs to be fixed? My brother in law is an electrician and will fix it for me if I get the ducks all in a row so to speak but I don't know where to start.
ANY help would be appriciated.
Thanks! Alicia

Thanks so far for the replies. I called a few TV repairmen, they want $150 to walk through my door. Or $200 to move the tv to thier shop. Then $3-400 for a fix which they say may not work. THEN $200+ more if it does not work. At that price, I bought a new tv today. I am planning on saving this atm broken tv to see if I can pay my brother in law to tinker with and repair if he can for our family room.

I've come to the conclusion that tv's are like gas nowadays. One big ripoff.

I had this same problem. I fixed it for about $30 and I am no handyman when it comes to electronics.

I'm going to look for the site i used. It was really difficult to find. I found accidently under another heading. I though I saved it bit can't find it now. I will let you knwo. Not all is lost. DO NOT try to reprogram with your remote. As soon as you fix the divergence chances are ti will go right back to normal. Mine did and so did 3 others I've talk too. So please do not try and reprogram with your remote. If you already did i have a list of some of the settings you can use although my TV is a Toshiba but they are really all the same when it comes to divergence amplifiers... The parts are about 8-15 each. and you will need 2 of them. I'll hae the part numebr and an online stroe for you. The store I used was the cheapest and fast as was recommended to me. They even made a mistake and sent me one when I ordered 2 and then sent me the other no cost of shipping. That was customer service. I didn't even ask for it. As far as I was concerned I saved over $700 which is what I was quoted to fix... Please be patient or hope you find something else in the meantime. I will try and get this to you in a couple of days... if you can hold out that long. I will say you will need a $30 soldering gun from radio shack. some solder with resinflux, a desolder bulb $7 and the amplifiers about 8-15 each... That's it. A little time waiting for parts to come in approx 2 days and you'll be up and running. I took my amplifiers out as soon as I ordered them from the online store. theny came in and I put them on the board in abut 10 minutes installed the board with screws and turned on the TV. WORKED THAT EASY!!! no kidding. Good Luck!

If the manual convergence won't allow you to adjust the blue, then the convergence board has gone bad. New remote will not help you - it is only good for adjusting the convergence if you cannot otherwise get to it.

You can try powering tv off, unplugging and replugging it to see if you get better results. Also, reset the cable/sat box too to be on the safe side. But, chances are the convergence board has gone bad.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

New Convergence board but need help adjusting convergence still

If the new sub board didnt fix the problem you will need a new convergence board as the sub deflection boards with the ICs only powers the convergence board. thats a complete seperate board. Let me know if you need more assistance.

You may have a open resistor on your convergence broad, it also has 3 pico fuses on that broad and 1 of them also could be open.
