I have erased all files on the Olympus DS-2, but it tells me that I have only 23 minutes and 36 seconds of internal memory left. When the physician tries to dictate it beeps to indicate that the memory is full? Have tried everything - Suggestions?????
I've had the same issue. The surefire solution is to go into the Sub Menu and FORMAT. It wipes the entire internal memory clean -- so be sure you've offloaded everything you need. You'll also need to reset the recording quality, if you have a custom setting, because it defaults to the highest quality. But you'll have all your space back.
I believe when files are deleted via computer, the DS-2 doesn't update itself to recognize the space is freed up. That's why data is gone but memory is not freed. Good luck.

Unfortunately this recorder is designed with flash memory and once you erase a file it is gone. There may be some companies (olympus is not one of them) that specialize in flash memory recovery but it is a very costly process and involves you sending the recorder to them to perform this operation.
You can go to google and search for flash memory recovery specialists.

3Press the ERASE button. The “Cancel” indicator flashes.
4Press the + button to choose“Erase”.
5Press the OK button. The display changes to “File Erase!” anderasing will start.“Erase Done” is displayed when the file iserased. File numbers will be reassignedautomatically
The DS-2 has a format option in the menu under submenu. After you choose start you will see a progress bar and it should return to full record time. Use on a MAC seems to cause the reduced record time more often than on a PC.
No, you can't do this on the Olympus DS-50 , its not a dictation machine, you can do this only by Olympus DS-2300, DS-3300, & DS-4000 which they have the Editing Features : Insert,Overwrite, eraseing and Partial erase
