Question about Mitsubishi WD-52525 52" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Lamp connector I replaced the lamp today, but when reinstalling the housing the receiving connector inside the TV popped out of its postition. I then opened up the back of the unit to reach in, in order to reconnect to the lamp housing connector. Now I only get sound, not picture. The lamp is not coming on and its not the bulb itself because I tried placing the old bulb back into housing with same results. It has to be something that happened when the receiving connector popped out. The fan is truning on, i can hear it. I am so lost on what it could be though.

Also...After the TV plays for a couple minutes (volume only) it cuts off with a red lamp indicator light.

Thanks for the advice. I managed to fix it myself. Upon further investigation, the metal clip that held the female connector in place inside the TV was bent from having the connector pushed out of it. Apparently when I was going in through the back of the set in order to connect the lampa housing by hand, the bent prongs of this clip were not allowing me to fully engage the connection. Once I removed the clip, the connectors made full contact and the lamp came on. It will be a little of a hastle changing the lamp from now on because I will have to open the back of the TV in order to connect, but problem solved and I saved $300 over sending out for service which would have probably taken 2 weeks.

Do a self test diagnosis by pressing the menu and device/input buttons on front panel for 5 sec and you will see a seq. of blinks followed by a short pause and then more blinks. count the first set and last to give you the error code.

I heard a pop and screen wet black. red lamp

Lamp inside TV is broken and requires replacement. Pop sound was its breaking sound.
Lamp replacement procedure is written in user manual, pretty easy.
Please buy Sony original lamp for TV safety and avoid aftermarket/ cheap lamp.
Let me know if you need to download user manual copy.
Thanks.

Had the same issue today when I replaced the bulb with housing. Did you try to turn on the TV without attaching the housing door? That was my problem...tried to see if the new bulb worked without going through the motions of screwing on the door. I believe the housing contacts are not making a good contact. Try taking the housing out and reinstalling it firmly in place and definitely screw in the door firmly as well. Perhaps it will work then. Advise...

Have you reset the lamp timer?
Was the lamp module sitted properly?
Remove the back panel and vacuum all the dust.
Also use compressed air to blow out the dust from the inside.
Do not blow into the fan on the right as that will get the dust inside the lamp housing.

Where is the lamp housing unit & how do I remove it?

The lamp is in the front of the TV. Pop off the gray cover, about the width of the screen, located just left of the power button. You will then see a bunch of warning labels on the left. Unscrew the one screw that is there and take that piece off. There's your lamp. Unscrew the screw on the right of the lamp and the lamp will slide out.

Lamp replacement

Without giving specifics, I'll cover most configurations.

Look for a thumb screw on the lower right "side" of the TV as you face the screen. If it exists, unscrew it and take the door off. Reach inside the cavity and lift the "D" ring and pull out the lamp. Insert the new lamp by tilting the lamp up on the left side (high voltage connector should be on the bottom), the "D" ring will raise and lower on its own when it seats. Reattach the door and it's done. If your set blinks the power light 3 times, you didn't get the door on correctly or the lamp isn't fully seated.

The other models require popping a facia panel off the front of the TV. To do this look for thumb screws on the rear of the set just below the corners of the screen. Loosen them until they are free from their threads, they will not come out completely as they are captive. Pull the plastic facia panel off the front of the TV. Find another thumb screw at the lamp door and loosen it, sliding the latch over to release the door. Use the long allen tool to loosen the bulb mounting screw and pull the bulb out. Reverse the sequence to reassemble.

If it has "Popped" then I would expect a rather catastrophic failure, and Lamps don't go "Pop.. they just fail more likely a Capacitor, Resistor, maybe even a semiconductor... so it's off to a reputable repairman get a "quote" and proceed from there.

Tv lamp replacement

I just did this myself. I'm a novice but it wasn't that hard. Your choices are to purchase a complete unit including the casing from a Sony repair shop for around $250, or just replace the lamp.

I just replaced the lamp and saved $130.

I just removed the screws from the side of the casing that protect the lamp. I disconnected the contact points and then popped open the housing.

Remove the screws and the nut that attach to the lamp. Wear gloves when you handle the new lamp so you don't shorten the lifespan of the bulb.

re-attach all the screws and slide it back in.

It took me the longest to have line up the contact points when sliding it back into the TV. Make sure all the connections are snug and keep at it. Don't give up! I'll admit I was tempted!
