I can scan with the canon mp140 and get images - but I can't work out how to do the optical character recognition (OCR). All the manual says is ''If you are scanning printed text, you can use the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software to convert it to text data''. Your help appreiated!

You cannot scan directly to Microsoft Word. You need to have a "reading" program (OCR) that reads the images of the scanner and sents them to Word. Try ABBYY FineReader, it's the best program for Optical Character Recognition.

In order to scan to word so a document is editable you need to use Optical Character Recognition Software (OCR). You can download free ocr software from www.simpleocr.com Use that software and then either export once scanned to Word or Save as a Word document in the OCR application.

Most scanners has Software bundles included when purchased. You may have and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software included on that CD.

There are plenty of OCR software's available if you had none.

A scanned document is an image file. As for an image doesn't allow tekst editing like an application such as Word does, you'll need OCR software.(Optical Character Recognition). This software is intelligent enought to read character instead of pixels.
