Hi , yes its 20 pin power supply and it does work as I have taken it from a working P4 2.4

So do all the case ones have to be connected before it will start then?

  • Alanuk Mar 06, 2008

I did connect the power one , but do I need any others as a minimum , e.g. reset , speakers etc or anything else to just get the fans spinning so I know there is life?

Hi alan,
You really need the Motherboards User-setup manual.
if you have,nt got the pwr from case switch connected to the header on mainboard, And possibly reset switch you won,t power it up. You should have a 10-12 + pinheader on the mainboard, which usually houses reset-mains on/off/speaker et,c. these have to be connected correctly. either a magnifying glass, they should be marked i.e Spkr=Speaker. Pwr=Power. Hdd led= Hard-drive led. et,c. also ensure you have the 4 Pin power connecter on the board, usually by the CPU.

    Hi Alan,

Sure if you have,nt got the power switch from Case To Motherboard wired, the switch on the Case won,t kick the board Up.

    Hi Alan,

    I,d connect everything from the front-panel reset/spkrs et,c.

Some boards run circuitry tests to see all is present.

Also you,ll have an audible warning with the system spkr.

    Regards Mike.

    P.s thankyou for the Rating.

Are you using a 24 pin or 20 pin power supply? Can you confirm the power supply you are using does indeed work?

My system is power on but it will not display anything on monitor

Hi there,
you can troubleshoot this problem very easily
  • confirm you connected all your cables including to monitor and 4pin power for graphics to MB
  • confirm your RAM is good, if you have two RAM, use single RAM for checking, replace with new
  • Clear BIOS by reconnecting Bios Jumper, if your jumper has 3 pins remove Jumper and connect with other two pins
  • If you have graphics card, check it, if you have doubt about this, use motherboard graphics, or replace with a working one,
  • if still not working after replacing new RAM and Graphics card, replace your processor, it will surely work if your motherboard has no problem
Thank you
Please rate me if is succeeded..

The m/b is dead. I've unpluged RAM and every other power on hdd etc. no sound on boot. only the cpu's fan works. no led indication. The keyboard doesn't work. I only need your confirmation to send it to...

hi dia0

if you have power and have tried to put in a different working RAM to test the board and still you have a blackout. it is confirmed that the board itself is dead. although the best way to try this would be to replace it with working parts. parts such as RAM, processor and power supply.
if you still have a blackout then you can send it to recycle.

hope this helps
please let me know

Keeps telling me no signal

The motherboard is not telling you there is no signal, the monitor is..
In this order:

  1. Test the connection from graphics card to monitor, try a different monitor to eliminate this from the issues.
  2. If other monitor works, the old one is causing the problems
  3. If new monitor does not work:
  • Check the graphics card is seated properly, if possible, test with another graphics card, if this works, the issue is with the graphics card
  • If this does not work, check the fan on the cpu, is it spinning? If not, make sure the fan is connected to the motherboard
  • If the fan is spinning, remove all the ram, reboot, you should get a series of beeps, make note of these and repost them (computer will not boot)
  • If you get NO beeps with ram removed, the CPU or motherboard are possibly dead, if possible, replace CPU with known working one and retest with and without ram in, make sure you have thermal grease on the CPU>heatsink. Replace the Ram (or one module)
  • If you get a single beep and the motherboard powers the monitor, the CPU was your issue
  • If you get no beeps, confirmed death of motherboard.
Possible other solutions: Remove CMOS battery, leave for 1 minute and then replace, see if it boots
Check the power switch from the computer front panel is not sticking

My laptop has a problem of not start once i switched on the on button

Hello Sir, Hi, if your laptop fails on power on, here are possible culprit.
  • definitely there is a power supply problem, these power supply modules are not really serviceable, you need to find a replacement, but if you cant find one, bring the power supply module to a reputable electronics service center, a TV tech. shop will do.
  • there is a possibility of battery problems, but you should see some LED lights on your laptop, to confirm battery is bad, have it replaced, or swap out a new battery,
  • there is a slim chance its the power switch, usually they don't response, if this is the case, replacement is needed, but this goes with the motherboard.
  • if everything else does not solve the problem, its the motherboard. if this is the case, there is not much more else to do, but replace the whole laptop, and but a new one, your dealer may help to contact the supplier if buy any chance may repair the laptop.

Hi

There could be many things that could stop the board from turning on, Determining what is wrong is like detective work. What I do, is take everything off the board to start. Then add the minimum to start a board to see if it will start. That's one drive (cd or HDD or whatever as long as it's a drive) the CPU, graphics card (if required) and one bank of memory, unless the board requires dual matching chips.. (that's not a required eliminate, but it helps avoid beep codes) Also, make sure you have your pin's set on the board absolutely correct, or that could be your problem to begin with. Also, if your going to load a ide drives, make sure you set your pin settings for master/slave/CS are set correctly on it. Now, you should get the power supply on, and the cpu fan spinning. If those don't power up, it's then either one of the six elements. The CPU, Power supply, Ram, Drive, graphics card or finally the motherboard. The next step is to replace each one of the elements with another to see if you get any change. Also, on the drive, try a different cable to make sure it's not that. I usally start with the drive, then move to the memory chip, next CPU, Last PSU. I also make sure that my replacements work on another machine first. If no change, then it's save to say you have a bad Board. It's a lot of work I know, but it's the sure fire way of finding out what isn't working.
Please don't forget to leave a rating.

Thanks Mark

No power

if you have changed and confirmed the psu and after that no power, then do a final test.
by the way, have u plug the power switch, reset switch, hdd led connector, power on led connector in the right pins on the motherboad. confirm it with the help of user manual , also mentioned in the motherboard too.
if all are in the right positions, and system still not working then do a final test.
remove all the power, data cables for all devices like cdrom, hdd, dvd etc. just plug the power plug of psu inside the motherboard and check. remove the ram too. the supply fan and processor fan should run without ram. but it should give a continuous on and off beeps.
if after removing all this, its still not working then it is surely dead.
