Philips 50pf9631d/10 Audio ok but no picture

Bad power supply or backlight inverter.

If the backlight is not turning on, you should be able to see the lcd image by shining a bright flashlight at the screen.

Backlight inverters are loud, so you can hear them operating (high pitched whine) and if the backlight is coming on, you can see white light leaking around the edge of the screen, and even a little inside the cabinet.

Philips are legendary for having power supplies that fail due to bad capacitors, so that could be the culprit as well.

WHEN TV IS PLUGGED IN TO OUTLET, EVEN WHEN TV IS OFF, i GET A LOUD WHINING NOISE AND STILL NO PICTURE

There is a short inside the set. Most likely the horizontal output transistor has shorted. The whining is the power supply being overloaded. Lots of things can cause this.

Television began making a loud audio noise and the picture went purple

Does your TV make a "whining, whirling, clicking, or humming noise?" If the TV have the infamous blinking lights problem , it's most likely a problem with your color wheel. The Samsung BP96-00674A color wheels spin anywhere from 6,000 to 15,000 revolutions per minute (RPM’s)--It is one of the few consumable parts in your Samsung TV. The average life expectancy from our data logging shows the Samsung color wheels are fairly reliable with a MEAN average of 5-8 years. Its basically in charge of creating the colors .God bless you here;s how to take it out and replace it: http://guides.fixyourdlp.com/samsung/bp96-01579a.php

Whining noise

The problem i had was when i would play my tv. I had it hooked from my dish to the sony then the tv. When i played a dvd,cd or the tuner it didn't make that noise. It seems my video/audio 2 channel was going bad. I disconnected my rca jacks and used the optical audio connection. The noise stopped and i got a better quality sound.

hope this helps
