Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

VACUUM REPAIR I have a Hoover Savvy upright, windtunnel, bag/bagless vacuum (model U8150-900). The Handle Release Foot Pedal - Part #38434026 broke soon after purchase but I finally found a source to replace this item. The problem is that now that I have the repair part I cannot figure out how to remove the old pedal and install the new one. The housing appears to be one piece of solid plastic. Any ideas, PLEASE! Peter

There are 2 tabs that stick out on the release, they fit in slots, so from the top look down and you can see them, using a flatblade screwdriver that will fit in there, push the side in to release it, which isn't easy, but it can be done. When you get the old one out, then the new one, push down on it until it locks into place.

Need to preplace handle release pedal

To remove the old pedal, simply insert a screwdriver along it's outside edge, and pry upward to pop it out. The new pedal, (#38434026) can be pushed into place with your fingers. Install it with the handle in the upright position.

My hoover wind tunnel self propelled vacuum wont stand up be itself. The locking thing is not working. Thank You. niblick43@yahoo.com

If you look at the foot pedal, see if it is locked in the base, and pivots freely. I have seen some of these that break the base, or break the spring hinge on the back side of the release pedal.

Foot controlled handle release lever is broken. Where to get parts?

I had same problem - the foot release pedal would not spring into place when unit was upright (but would work if you nudged in place with your foot). I installed a replacement part, and it didn't fix the problem. I cut out a small sqare of sponge and jammed it behind the flat end of the bent plastic spring on the release pedal, and it now springs back as it shoud. Hope this helps.

Stand up lever is plastic, broke when stepped on to release handle, can it be repaired, replaced with a better one, plastic breaks too easily?

The pedal release can be replaced but the base will need to be checked for cracks as well. if the base is broken most common is the socket the pedal release snaps into. some of the plastic parts have been made with better materials

Foot latch is broken. need to replace with new one. how does one access to remove the foot pedal latch. By foot latch, I mean the foot lever that releases the upright to lower the handle and begin...

it is accessed from the bottom underneath by the rear wheel. However, If there are and cracks on the pedal release socket area then the base will need replacement. parts are little cost but the unit needs to be completely disassembled.

The Footpedal latch won't keep the handle up.

Contact your local Hoover Warranty center and give them the model, they will be able to either ship you the part or sell it to you

It does not stand up straight

the plastic locking mechanism to keep it upright is broken. It can be fixed, but not sure it is worth fixing. I know its a pain to lean it up against the wall all the time, but the cost for replacing the part is not worth the expense in my opinion. Good luck!

The pedal release lever should be available through a Hoover dealer at a minimal cost.

Too much play in upright part of my Hoover upright wind tunnel

No. The handle release pedal is snapped into the bottom base assembly. Look underneath to check for cracks or damage in this area. this is the most likely issue. If it is, then the base will need to be repalced.
