You might see the presence of random lines all over the screen in some occasions in your sony Laptop. Often, troubles are created due to this. You would see the vertical and horizontal lines. You could solve this problem easily with the help of LCD BIST test. For this you would have to press the function key and follow the instruction as the LCD BIST runs several colored screen.

Hi,
I always think Vaios are worth Repairing.
If It,s An FX model Or F they,re a great Machine. P3 were the Most reliable Processor Made ( in My opinion )
I see Sony-Vaio As the rolls-Royce Manufacturer Of Laptops.
Therefore i would suggest Purchasing a replacement Screen.
It,s not that difficult to replace. With A service Manual ( e-Bay ) you,ll get a Screen 14" Or 15" Depending On Model. For About £80-£140. for a laptop that Probably retailed At Over £1000.00 in it,s day. i,d say go for it.

I have several replacement Screens myself, if your in the UK.
i,d offer you a full replacement Screen Fitted On your item.

I have a Sony Vaio I-7 laptop computer, despite using a cooling pad in addition to an external fan the processor overheats and shuts down. What can I do to fix this problem?

You may be running applications or games that are too much for your processor- change the resolution and shadow settings to lower the strain on your graphics card. Then, take a can of compressed air and blow out the airways as best as you can, it may be gagged with lint/cat hair etc. blocking the fans ability to cool the unit properly.

1 LONG BEEP 2 SHORT BEEPS

Does anything ever post to the screen when you press the power button? if not, it's your video card. The links below are for 1 long and 2 short and they say it's the video card. I've heard that Sony extended the warranty on some models so you might want to go to their website and check yours or in a google search type: Sony GPU Extended Warranty. I did and I see they extended it from one to three years. They have the faulty Nvidia Graphics Card which was a major problem for many manufacturers.

You definitely have a Video Card Error related.
  1. Find Where Your Graphic Card located (asuming your computer has a separate card for video .
  2. Check the connection from your display to your video card (these connections are very thin wires running all the way to the video card or the MB).
  3. If the second step is clarified then have your graphic card checked. or have *********** Board chip set checked for bios and fermware.
Mostly you have a connection problem.

I have sony vaio VGN-CS12GH so can i use graphic card in my laptop.

The graphics circuitry is integrated into the motherboard in a laptop and you can't install a different card. If you are looking for a way to improve graphic performance, your only option is to download the latest video drivers from either the computer manufacturer or video chipset makers' websites, and see if any new capabilities have been added.

Firewire problem I think - I have a Sony Vaio laptop, the firewire port is 4 pin, it is connected to a LaCie CD Burner via 6 pin and the burner is daisy chained to a AcomData external hard drive via 6 pin....

If the hub has an external power supply it migh do the trick. That way you can have a backup port if needed.

Make sure the hard drive isn't connected to the hub. Sometime windows doesn't see it when its connected to a hub.

Cant see anything but white screen after bootup

Plug in an external monitor and use the F key with the FN to toggle between lcd and external monitor. On my laptops It is the FN and F5. If the external monitor works the problem is the the inverter board, the flex ribbon cable or the LCD. If the external monitor is also messed up then the problem is probably the video card/ motherboard.
