I have the Exact same problem. Its not the sub, and I've disconnected the speakers one at a time and rotated them. So I know it not the speakers. It happenens in tv mode as well as thru the receiver. I've tried all the settings in the setting menu. If you are watching a program and change channels the hum will stop un till the next channel is online. then you can hear it again. It does not seem to be a bad wire or cord. Onkyo TX-SR705

My onkyo tx-sr575 produces a buzzing noise in the ceiling speakers from the video out. I have changed all cables and also tried changing from HDMI to other cable. The buzzing does not come through the tv. The buzzing does not happen when playing a CD or DVD. It is only from the Video out of the receiver. Please help before i go back to an 8 track tape deck!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! IT FIXED THE HUMMING!!! I was ready to throw the receiver out the door. I have Comcast and I went into the Main Menu, Setup, Audio Setup, and then changed the Optimal Stero setting to yes and SHAZZAM it fixed it no more humming and I now can put the Onkyo Receiver on 10 and still get sound threw the speakers. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

I found the source of my hum. I have Direct TV HD. I found that going into the menu settings (Direct tv HD Receiver) /Audio/Sound Effects and turning that option off, I was able to rid myself of the annoying hum. The option has something to do with keeping the audio settings from channel to channel, while it is changing you hear dead air except for the hum. Nice and quit now. Love this receiver!

It's not really clear if all of this is Zone 2 or not, or if you intend a second program to play in Zone 2.

If your Zone 2 is to a powered amplifier and its speakers the Zone 2 output would be FIXED (not variable from the host TX-SR705), that is, at a level that the receiving amplifier would control.

Page 99 deals with it.

Having just passive speakers in Zone 2 requires you to set Zone 2 to "ACT(ive)".

TX-SR705 60 hz. Hum

If you have a Home Theater Line conditioner on this receiver, not a power surge protector, even a "Monster" surge suppressor, your problem Is AC related. For troubleshooting; first if your AC power cord is three pronged, go to Lowes, Home Depot, etc. and get a three prong to two prong adapter. Your problem is a "Ground" issue, however it may not be from the receiver, it could be "Anything else" in your home. Even an actual outlet with a loose wire. It can be very very time consuming to "hunt down". An adapter will take the rest of the house out of the picture. Disconnect all other input sources like Cable, DVD, etc. then turn the unit back on. If you still have a humm, yes the problem is internal and needs serviced. If it stops, re-connect one item at a time until the noise re-appears and you have your culpret. If you don't have a line conditioning noise eliminating Theater surge protection unit; Get one! best few hundred bucks you could ever spend. It will protect all your electronics and could save you thousands! Panamax, Furman, Monster, are your top 3. If you still have issues, post a comment and I can help you further. Hope this helps.

How do I connect my outside speakers to play?

The onkyo should still have a speaker A/B selector in the menu.
Check on the back panel for speaker A/B.
If it has or you decide to use Zone 2 you will need to set the sound programme to "stereo" so the rears and centre do not work.
You can still use a digital source.
You should be able to display the amp's menu on the screen.
Hook up "monitor out" (Yellow) via RCA connector to one of the "A/V inputs" (yellow) on the tv, this will show you a display of the menu and will make it eaiser to navigate.

Onkyo TX-SR705 Muting Problem

if what Dark_Orbit said does not work try doing a master reset by ressing and holding the dvr/vcr button and stand by button simultaneously. This would erase all your assignments so you would need to reassign all your sources hooked up to your onkyo.

Buzzing/vibration noise from ONYKO TX-SR506 unit

If the unit is under warranty, DO NOT open it up. Bring it in for an exchange or warranty service. Explain that the unit makes noise during use and it will be serviced. This could be as simple as a bad connection in the power supply area and you are hearing oscillations or it could be a defective power transformer. Either case will be covered under warranty so there should be no charge to you.

Keep us posted.
