The monitor is not receiving a video signal, normally this is a sign that the inverter is bad. There are some places that can repair this for about 80.00 plus shipping both ways. Unless your really attached to it 17" lcd's new are about $165.00

If your are good at disassembly and reassembly the monitor comes apart fairly easy and the inverter runs about $ 20-$35 .

It's clear the problem is the display, but you can still try these 1. unplug and replug while the both is on 2. turn on, off couple of times 3. keep the LCD on for about one hour these are anyway temporary fixes :(

When you switch the monitors, do you still use the very same vga cable? If you don't, then it's time to change the monitor. When it turns on and off inmediately it means that it's receiving the signal, but that's it. If it's brand new, exchange it.

This is not a Fix to the Problem, If you read some of the other "fixes" that relate to this you will see that it is a more serious problem and one that Acer should Do the Honorable Thing and have a Recall.
I actually went in side on three of the Same Monitors and one that was a 21 inch and found the problem is "HEAT"
You can see where a Board actually shows Browning on the Circuitry I am Going to try to order a new board P/N:AS08B360411.

The Capacitor on the Inverter Circuit Board has gone bad and needs to be replaced. That's it.
