Question about Creative Labs ZEN Vision:M Digital Media Player

1 Answer

Hardware Problem I've had my Zen Vision M for 2 years and it has worked excellent. The past few days it started locking up quite a bit. I would hit the restart and it would either rebuild or turn on normally. Soon when I would hit the restart, the message 'Hardware Problem' would come up, so I would hit restart again until it would start up normal. Now my player only brings up the 'Hardware Problem' and will not start at all. I opened up the player and the battery and hard drive connections appear to be normal, so I can only assume that the problem is deeper, far beyond my ability to fix. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or can direct me to a repair shop for this player. Thanks very much.

Mine cannot boot into recovery mode and isn't recognized by my computer or the MP3 Recovery Tool. It started getting this error when the Recovery tool crashed during driver reinstall, and now just boots to "Hardware Problem" No matter what I do.

Try installing the latest firmware from creatives website. If I recall, there is a new version that fixes this problem.

Creative Zen Vision M frozen on the start up screen

Hey guys, I've had the same problem for over 2 years. Guess what? I fixed it today!! It is indeed a hard drive issue. I recommend following a guide to disassemble your zen. (Remember, this is only if you dont have any other choice) When you disconnect your hard drive, plug it right back in there pushing hard on it to make sure it is connected completely. IF that does not work, this is the final resort.

I did this and it worked. Normally you arent supposed to ever do this to any kind of hard drive. But why not? since it is already broken. lightlyish hit it a few times, and take the end of a screw driver and stick it in the hole on the end of the hd and pry it loose a tad. you arent trying to pop it open, just givve it a little breathing room. Worked for me, normally it shouldnt. But no one seems to be sharing anything so hopefully this helps someone some time in the future.

Zen Vision:M not even detected on Vista!

I had the same problem with my Zen MicroPhoto. I finally found a simple solution:

--Go to your computer's Device Manager (with your player plugged in)
--Find your MP3 player under Portable Devices
--Right click on your player and click Uninstall
--Unplug your player from your computer when the uninstall finishes
--Plug your player back in to your computer
--Vista will automatically reinstall the driver, and your player should appear in My Computer

I have no idea what causes the players to suddenly quit working, but I'm glad I finally found an easy way to fix it.

Zen Vision M freezing during music upload.

Try to add your music a bit at a time instead of your whole library at once. That will freeze it. You can also try sync with Window's Media Player, which works a lot better than the Creative software.
