I can play DVDs both store bought and ones made on my PC but I cannot record DVDs at all. I read the same "unhelpful" hint in the manual. I have not found anything on-line that offers any help. $400 for a unit that lasted about 2 years.

According to page 69 of the owners manual:

If you repeatedly insert discs or turn this unit on and off 50 times or more, the recording or editing of DVD-R may be disabled.
There is no suggestion to fix.

Hi, I have a DVD PIONEER DVR-330-S writer. Here is the problem: it starts writing disks, but can't finish the job, hence the disks can't be read by any DVD player. Could you please help me...

After you have burned the disc it will require Finalizing.
This is done by the same machine.

My RD-XS32 will not read dvd's when i put them in the dvd player. It gives me the message that it cant read the disk, to check it for cleaning or damage.

I have the same problem. Initially it was intermitent, but then it started to get progressivly worst to the point that the dvr no longer recognizes blank disks for recording.

I wonder if someone had experience replacing the dvd burner with another, would it be compatible enough for the dvr to continue working properly (I know it is an older sony dvd burner. Worst case I dump $40 and then put the new burner on my PC instead)

Yamaha dvr-s120 can not read dvd or cd. Drive is not spinning.

The CD motor could be faulty if you cannot hear any spinning noises from it from it loading or the lens could be faulty resulting in not enabling the dvd to register its prescence in the player to spin the disk.

LOCKED DVR

I just bought the CH-DVR 1600 @ Target. This is just a temporary workaround to enable playing of region 2 DVD disks (don't have other regions but believe it will work also), until the real regional unlock is available.

1. Insert the region 2 DVD disk and close the tray.
2. Wait for the "Wrong Region" popup to appear in the upper-right corner of your TV screen.
3. The display on your DRV reads "STOP" at this point and the "Wrong Region" popup has disappeared.
4. Press the number "1" button on your DVR remote and a small input popup will appear in the upper-left corner of your screen.
5. Do not press anything else and the DVR will accept this entry as a chapter # and proceed to this chapter to start playing the movie.

NOTE1: The DVR runs in a somewhat restricted node, e.g. the DVR display still reads "STOP" and some remote functions do not work, such as "Menu". The input numbers correspond to the chapters on the DVD disk, so you can experiment and get to the menu once you hit one of the extra feature chapters with a "back to the menu" link on it.

NOTE2: I’m anxiously awaiting the real unlock sequence, as I tried most of the old ones posted here, none seemed to work.

also try this
-Switch player ON with no disc in the tray. Close tray and press MENU, 1, and 9 on the remote control. A menu should appear with the Region Option. Highlight the Region entry and press ENTER on the remote. Type in the Region you want. (Put 0 for code free) Press ENTER again to confirm choice. Press OPEN/CLOSE TRAY button and put in movie.

No disk

Hi. I have this problem with my unit. After a lot of research on the net it apperars that this is caused by problems with the laser pickup. The laser is either dead or is on its way out and doesn't have the strength it needs to read sensitive DVDs but is OK with Audio CDs.

A lot of CyberHome units have this problem due to the poor quality of the laser pickup units they use. I have been told that they have since gone bankrupt. If it is still under warranty then it you may be able to get it repaired but otherwise it may be cheaper to get new unit.

Hope this helps
