Agitator in our Whilrpool Washer Model # GST 9344EQo bought on 9/28/98 does not rotate. This unit had a pump replacement on 2/13/04. It is time for this unit to be replaced or would it be cost effective to get it fixed? Thanks. Umesh C. Mullick, M.D. [email protected]

Rotator seems to slip and only work part-time. Also tub won't drain.

ok first do you mean the agitator if this unit that we are talking about is a top load washer then you would most likely need to replace the agitator dogs here is also a video of how to replace the agitator dogs as well http://www.youtube.com/user/RepairClinic?v=0GQh8JLqVv8&feature=pyv&ad=5457341621&kw=agitator as to the tub not draining this would be most likely a clog where you would have to check the pump and the lines going to the pump as well to assure that there are no objects jammed in the the drain system here is a link showing how to replace the pump you would only do this if the impellar on the pump was not spining and you can actually remove the pump and see if the the impellar is spining which would tell you if your pump is good or not http://www.youtube.com/user/RepairClinic?v=DwV71h86Gxw&feature=pyv&ad=5457341861&kw=washing%20machine%20pump if you have any further questions message me back and please remember to rank how this opinion has helped it allows me to help others in similar situations Thanks Rick

The agitator doesn't rotate aggressively. I popped the center cap and it appears that the plastic paws have broken partially off and are not engaging the geared ring, but rather just slipping over it.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

If the bottom agitates and not the top, the problem is likely the 4 "agitator dogs" designed to allow the top agitator to turn only one way.

Look at the section on the Sears site for Agitator, basket and tub.

See the part "Dog, agitator "

Remove the fabric softener unit, lift the top agitator cap (use a screwdriver) and you should see a plastic part in the center of the top agitator with a 1/2" square drive.

Remove the drive and lift off the top agitator. Turning it over you should see the 4 "dogs", replace these and the top agitator should turn in one direction only.

Replace the 1/2" drive, the cap and fabric softener unit and the top agitator should work.

Also see the following illustrated description of the above.

Whilrpool imerial series washer making strange noise

The agitaor coupling or drive mechanism is stripped. You will have to pull the agitator up out of the machine to find which of the parts need to be replace. Most likely th agitator coupling.

Washer is not rotating fully during wash cycle

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Some Kenmore washers have a two piece agitator. The lower section will rotate back and forth both ways.

The top section has "agitate Dogs" that allow it to rotate only one way (to keep the clothes moving downward.

If yours has a two piece agitator there shouldn't be a problem.

The upper agitator on Whirlpool Model LA9100XTW1 is not rotating

To repair agitator remove the top of it < snaps on> then remove bolt from center and the agitator will split in middle. You'll find a center cogg with three arms remove this and replace with new one< the kit that you described is this part > and assemble it.The coggs are move freely to engage so you don't have to align them in any way.

Agitator not rotating

I have had to replace the agitator gear just inside the agitator, mine did the same thing, I took the agitator apart, removed the plastic gear, the gear has a number on it, you can call sears service dept with the number, also a good idea is to have the model and serial number of the washer, the part was really inexpensive as well, my washer has been working great now for over a year since I replaced mine, if you don't want to get into it like I did, sears also offers service, but I would try to call and get the price on the part first before calling in a service tech, thanks again for your Question, hope that provided you the solution, please rate this for us,

Remove the cap off the top of the agitator. Then remove the 7/16 bolt below. Your problem is inside the top part of the agitator. YOu need to buy an agitator dog kit. When the part is removed you will see how to put it in.
