My Cannon A550 is just over a year old. Two weeks back the flash stopped working all of a sudden. I can take pictures with flash off. But with flash on camera does not allow to take pictures and a flash symbol keeps flashing on the LCD.

I installed the Canon Soultion disk for my power shot A550, it was installed successfully but when i plug my camera to the computer it doesn't connect. I have windows 7.

Check in control panel if they are a yellow mark near the camera
O device manager and Unistall
After try connect again
1.- connect to other USB Port
2.- Try in another PC

The camera must be detect automatically and show as a memory flash

Canon powershot a550 lens cover damaged can this be replaced

It might. You can possibly repair this yourself with the existing parts if they're all still there. Please see this blog article discussing repair of automatic lens covers.

I can't take a picture with the flash. Everytime I set it to flash mode and I hold down the button and I think it's the ready light that stays light but it doesn't take a picture. I had one of my friends...

My wife's A550 stopped its flash for no good reason. I put two fresh batteries in and there was no improvement. I then gave it a smal tap on our kitchen table - on the opposite side to the flash - and it started working again.

Perhaps it's the 21st century equivalent to kicking the photo copier when it did not work.

Good Luck

Canon Powershot A550 flash will not work it just blinks on & off?

Hi
There are several things that could cause this.

1- Check the battery door indicator switch under the battery door and beside the memory card slot. Is the little black switch damaged or missing? Try pressing down gently using a pen it with the door open and then press the power button. Does it turn on?

2- The fuse has blown and needs to be replaced. Offhand I don't recall where it is on the SD750 PCB or how hard it is to solder on a new one (depends on if its tricky to get at or not). Good thing is fuses are really cheap.

3- Other power problem with the PCB due to corrosion or impact damage. The PCB or 'motherboard' of the camera will need to be replaced.

New Canon A550

very simple. you need to get an SD card reader from your local electronics store ( CC or Best buy). it's very simple. the memory card goes into the card reader and that ensemble plugs into any of the usb ports in your computer. once plugged in, the computer will recognize it as external memory, just like a flash/thumb drive and your comptuer can read the pictures off of the card without any interaction with the camera itself. all you will need to do is copy the pictures and paste them into any folder you wish.

Just a video of 8.03 minutes captured in my Power Shot A550 Digital Camera shows 867 MB size

A 1.3 hour movie is recorded on a DVD, not a CD. DVDs can hold a minimum of 4.7 GB, or nearly seven times the capacity of CDs. Your 867 MB file of 8.03 minutes indicates that you were recording at about 1,800 KB/sec, or the highest quality recording level. (See specifications here.) If you're willing to record your video in a smaller size, you can get much more recording on a CD.
