Noise in Audio

With the mic keyed and the radio in transmit an unwanted whistle (oscillator?) noise is present. Also occurs during Pa mode with external speaker plugged into PA jack. It can be heard without keying mic. Any suggestions??, Thanks, Gary

Thank You but this is not a telephone hand set, it is a citizens band "CB" radio.

  • ScapeGoat Mar 06, 2008

There are no speakers activated during transmit and the problem is there. Thanks

Check the line and the box you got the problem on there, not on the handset, call your Telephone operator for technical problem.

Thanks,

are you sure that the postion of the speakers are not on the behind of the mic.....

the noise may be due to feedback sound also

  • dewan nafees ahmed Mar 07, 2008

the variable capacitor (VR) used in the tuning of frquencies have gone bad

else the filter has been damaged( replace them)

its just replacing a few parts so it wont cost more

you can do it yourself at your own risk else take it to a tech who can make it cheap for you....

    thankyou

    good luck

Problem no squelch noise or speaker like its muted, but can hear weather ok shows receiving and ant ok

Since the radio cannot transmit on Weather bands, there is no need for the radio to detect if it is transmitting when receiving weather.
In CB mode (on CB channels) the radio will mute when transmitting. So... a guess is that it is muting, or transmitting all the time in CB mode. Check for a mic problem by removing the Mic from the radio ... if it receives CB with no mic connected, then there is an issue with the mic. Otherwise, unless the unit is in PA mode (public address mode) it is likely something internal and beyond the scope of this service.

Hello bcousins.
Welcome to FixYa.
My name is John, and I will be assisting you with your issue today.
Turn your RF GAIN to MAX . Check that your antenna is grounded to the body.
Plug a EXTERNAL speaker in the back of the unit and see if you have sound.
If you have sound now, replace the speaker. Could be a few more things causing this, but
try this first, then let me know if you need further! Hopes this was helpful. Comments and Testimony
are always welcomed here. Thanks for choosing FixYa today and in the future.

Could be audio chip.
  • Insert external speak jack into pa port.
  • Turn volume down
  • Switch cb/pa switch to pa
  • speak into mic
if you are getting audio from speaker ......chip is fine.

I have a cobra 29 LTD that has no audio in the PA mode or the CB (transmit or recieve) mode i've changed mics and also changed the audio IC to no avail. where do i look now?

look into buying a new radio. If you had researched further you would have found out that unless you are on cb your radio will not operate . If you are on PA the you can only transmit through the PA system not the cb. If you changed the audio IC then you probably did a cold solder on it. You need an external speaker to operate the pa mode and an external speaker to operate the CB mode .If you decide to fix it more it will cost you more then buying a new radio.

Cobra 18 wx st receives-wont transmit

Take the cover off, flip it over solder side up, check all solder joints for cracks, cold solder joints, check the safety diode where it comes in the radio, before I go further, can you pick up the weather channel?...Does the PA work?...need to check the pre-driver and finals, audio chip, hook up the power meter using a coax three foot jumper from the output from radio to the input of the watt meter, then the antenna, first check the SWR, on the scale on the meter to cal/swr mode, adjust it to spec, then while still keyed down turn the dial to SWR,if it is the safe range your ok,then turn the Dial to 10 or 20 watt scale and key the mic. Does it have any wattage? If not suspect the finals, they are located on the back rail, if it does have RF then its the audio chip, its located on the right side rail facing you, closest to you.remove it and replace it with same ....hope this helps....

29 c0bra will transmit but wont receive antenna coax all good

Do you have any noise at all coming thur? If not do you have an external speaker try it still nothing then take your speaker plug and plug it into your pa jack key the mic do you hear anything if not its your IC chip, its bad it'll need to be replaced,if you do it could be a bad soilder on the board or a broken wire in the mic.

Transmitting and receiving

RF gain should be all the way up. Turn the squelch all the way down. Turn the ANL/NB to just ANL.

Turn the dynamic up at least 3/4.

Once you have confirm you can receive and transmit, then you can turn up the squelch up until white noise just stops.

Make sure you are on 19 by the highway. Key up and say break break one nine, can some one give me a radio check please.

you should get a response.

Your RF gain is how much you receive. the higher it is the more you receive. In normal operation there is no need for it ever to be less the all the way on.

Squelch is just to knock out fuzz, and if you only want to hear people close not far. A little less then half way is a basic setting.

the ANL switch is the automatic noise limiter. if you have interference from your vehicle, like engine noise, turning this on will quiet that. If it is extreme engine noise then switch it to NB, noise blanker. It is just a more intense setting.

your dynamic is how loud your audio is. if its low or all the way down, you will not transmit audio loud enough for people to hear. If its a stock radio and has not been tuned, if you turn it all the way up, that is fine.

Squealing Noise

Hi,

Some radios use the push to talk switch in the microphone to ground the receiver section when transmitting instead of a relay in the radio. There may be a problem with that switch, or the switching circuit in the radio itself.

If you have a PA switch make sure it is in the off position, if on it will squeal like a pig!

If you have a PA function on the radio does the mic put out audio, if it does this would rule out the mic

Mic hum

Yes, the wiring is different. Reverse the wires on pins 1 & 2, then reverse the wires on pins 3 & 4.

The wiring for you radio's mike is:

1- Audio
2-Ground (Shield)
3-Receive
4-Transmit

Depending on the vintage of your mike, the colors Uniden uses for these functions are white or yellow for audio, red is transmit & black is receive.
