In Windows XP -
Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Right Click your Wireless Connection -> Properties -> Right click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) -> Automatically Obtain an IP Address, Automatically Obtain DNS Server Automatically.

That should help you to avoid IP Address conflicts.
If your IP address conflicts still is a problem, we may have to set up DHCP on your Router as well. If so, let me know what kind of router you have and I can (or someone can) help you through it.

Thanks for your time!

If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wireless connection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptop probably did not get an IP address from the wireless router.
To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and then click Repair.
This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless card on the laptop.

Is it traceable when you connect to a network internet using your personal laptop. I used my laptop to view and send an email.

Yes, it is traceable, because the E-mail "headers" of the message you sent usually contain your IP-address, or the IP-address of the wireless router in your home, if you made a wireless connection from your laptop to your router to the Internet.

My laptop dont detect wireless coneccion

1.Log into router. Using either 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window that is ( internet Explorer or Firefox)
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) ( router status window)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop/desktop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.
8. check for firmware update at the manufacturers site for your model router
9. cell phones, cordless phones, digital TV's, can affect the data signal from a router. Also distance from the router can be a factor. If your router is in a basement place the router to a upper floor and center it in the room.

Not reading wireless connection

The wireless router needs its wireless settings configured and also the wireless card in all the laptops and or computers needs to be configured with the router’s wireless settings so the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with the wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

Do You have an association button on Your router? If so, the firstly press the button and then try to connect. If not, You must enter IP address of Your computer, like 192.168.0.5 Subnet mask, like 255.255.255.0 IP address of router, like 192.168.0.1 Then, most important - default gateway. If You have another computer connected at the same router, run cmd, then ipconfig in the black MS DOS window that appears after cdm command. Here You can see all parameters of Your TCP/IP configuration. Take a note of the default gateway and put it to TCP/IP settings of Your Linksys device. If it not help, drop me a message.

Acquiring Address Problem

you will need to make sure that DHCP is enabled within the routers settings as this will tell the router to assign ip addresses automatically, then go to network connections, right click on your network card>properties>TCP/IP line>properties and tick 'obtain an ip address automatically', click ok, close window and restart pc.

Assuming your router is set correctly to your modem or the password and username are set correctly in a modem/router, make sure DHCP is enabled in the router, this gives each pc an ip address automatically.

Go to open internet explorer>tools>internet options>connections tab and ensure never dial a connection is ticked or greyed out. close IE

go to network connections, right click on your wireless adapter>properties>highlight TCP/IP line>properties and make sure that obtain an ip address automatically is ticked.

Open up internet explorer again and click refresh a few times, it will detect the proxy server then should connect, if not then the router configuration is wrong.

Netopia 3347-02; I cam connecting two computers cia the ethernet; the second computer keeps getting booted off. What can I do to solve?

I am looking for this fix right now, and one solution I saw but have not yet validated is this:

Go to your router settings in your browser (http://192.168.1.254/). Click wireless and enter your Wireless SSID as stated here. Now enter your WEP key on the DS. On the DS, choose not to auto obtain an IP address, and enter an IP starting with 192.168.1.*, less than 192.168.1.253 (for example, 192.168.1.228). Put in 255.255.255.0 for subnet mask. Now, here's where I made the mistake: You don't use the gateway as listed in your router settings, you use your router's IP address as a gateway (this is listed as local network IP address on the main page).
Now just put in your primary and secondary DNS servers as listed on main page, and you should be ready to go.

Once everything is attached you have to reboot everything so your router can assign IP addresses.

If your wireless pciG has a static IP address that is not in the proper range e.g. (if the router is 192.168.0.1 and your desktop is 192.168.15.1 then you can not log into the router, the router has to assign IP addresses in its range of 0.2-0.50)

If your IP address is assigned dynamically, then everything has to be re-booted so the router can assign the address in it's range.
