Question about GE GSL25JFPBS Side by Side Refrigerator

4 Answers

GSL25KGREBS FRIG First my waterline stopped working, but I have great spring fed tap water so I ignored it (the icemaker still worked). Now, the ice & outside light won't work either and the fridge has started to click & the light inside flickers with the clicking, I noticed a fan in the freezer is also moving slowly to the clicking. It's still cold inside the freezer & fridge?! HELP?!

We tested the valve to find the red reads 183 & the blue reads nothing. So we'll go ahead and replace it. However, the ice dispenser still does not work? We assume this is whole other problem?!

How do you test the actuator? Thanks for all the help!

Ok, water inlet valve replaced-everything is the same. When we had the fridge pulled out we noticed the clicking came from the area of the computer panel. We also noticed the fan at the bottom stop in repitition with the clicking-not just the freezer evaporator fan. When we push on anything in the dispenser area it clicks twice in back. Is there anything else we can check?!

Frost free refrigerator models with a top mount freezer utilize a drain to take the water melted off the coils to the evaporator pan. This pan collects the water in the bottom of the unit and uses the heat of the compressor to increase the evaporation rate. If this drain becomes clogged with ice or debris it will back-up and eventually over flow. This overflow usually collects in the bottom of the fresh food compartment below but can also leak onto the floor.

I can offer a suggestion. It sounds like you have a plugged defrost drain line. This is where the water goes to in the bottom of your freezer when it goes through the defrost (removal of ice from the freezer coil) cycle. It sounds like that hole is plugged and now the water/ice has now frozen in the vent that lets air circulate down into your refrigerator compartment. What I usually do in this case is to unplug the refrigerator, empty out the freezer compartment. Usually I also end up either pulling off the back panel or the bottom panel (in the freezer compartment) Looking for that defrost drain hole and thawing it out with a heat gun (be careful of melting plastic) or actually I use a hair dryer. I can sometimes do this also by pouring small amounts of HOT tap water onto it and then sopping/absorbing it away with a sponge or dishcloth. I repeat this until I get the water to go down the drain tube

There are two things that could be causing this. First I would check the water inlet valve. There are detailed instructions for that here, along with images: http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/check/inletvalve.php

It's likely that water isn't getting into your system. As the ice pulls water slowly, it would still work with a partial blockage, where as your water delivery system wouldn't - it needs a stronger flow. I'm guessing the valve is completely blocked by now.

The fan should also be tested. Detailed instructions on how to do that, with images, can be found here:

http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/check/evapfan.php

Of course, if both of these are having problems, it could also be a power related issue. They run off a different level of current than other components of the refrigerator, so it's possible the power supply is damaged. If you test and find that the inlet isn't blocked and the fan is working, I would check the power supply.

Of course, the images above aren't from your model, but they should be similar enough to follow.

Actually, the ice dispenser feeds off the same line. It's probably the same problem. Once that valve is replaced, let me know if the ice machine starts working again. If it doesn't, we'll look into other things, but until we know it's getting water it would be hard to tell if there was something else wrong.

Have a new frigidaire how long does it take for ice bin to fill after waterline install

Ice maker will call for water 12-14 hours after plug in. If the ref was running and then Waterline was connected it should call for water in 4 hours or less. Easy rule, after 24 hours, ice bin should be full.

Is there a shut off valve on the ice maker?

There should be a shut off valve at the beginning of the water line that the installer tapped into when installing your icemaker. Mine runs down through my kitchen floor into my laundry room and is tapped into a copper cold waterline with a small handle attached to it.

To stop icemaker from making ice simply raise the lever to the up position that is attached and hangs next to your icemaker tray. This works on most models.

Even though I connected the waterline, there is no water in the ice maker. the icemaker keeps turning to dispose the ice it does not have. Thinking that the end of waterline was frozen, I unplugged the frig...

BACK OF THE FRIDGE IS THE WATER VALVE. UNPLUG THE OUTLET WATER OF THE VALVES, LEAVE THE INLET CONNECTED. APPLY 120 TO THE VALVE AND SEE IF WATER COMES OUT. MOST LIKELY YOU HAVE TWO VALVE, WATER AND ICE. IF THEY BOTH WORK, YOU HAVE A BAD MODULE IN THE ICEMAKER

Ice Maker has stopped working....not sure if water is reaching ice maker. Would this be a difficult fix?

Depends. Put your fingers into the icemaker. Feel for ice or water. If none, check the fill tube to ensure it is not iced up. This tube feeds the icemaker with water. If it is iced up, thaw it out. If no ice or water in icemaker then pour a cup of water into the icemaker, wait the nite to see if it drops the ice. If it does the problem is the valve behind the frig.

Ice maker overflows water during the water fill cycle

is the icemaker level side to side front to back if yes how is the water flow at the disp is it slow? then have you changed the filter in the frig ? No filter and water is still slow coming out follow the waterline from behind the frig follow it to where it hooks up if a saddle valve shut it off all the way use a hand towel to increase tork while shutting down then open it all the way open test the water at the disp again do you have better water flow coming out then the imkr may stop leaking the reason you are checking and testing the above is if you do not have at least 35psi of water pressure the valve will not close fully and overflow the icemaker another test is when you get water from the disp does the water shut down when released or does it continue to run/drip if so the water psi is the cause although useful not always as reliable

Hooked up waterline to side by side frigiedaire,

Your inlet tube that goes to the icemaker may be frozen. To Check: Shut off water supply to Fridge, disconnect the water line that goes to the icemaker at top back. Use a flexible item to insert in the water line connection. I used a zip tie. If the flexible item won't all the through to the ice maker, the line is frozen. Thaw out the tube from inside the freezer with a hair dryer. Re-connect everything, you now have ice . . . Solution #2: You may have to replace your "Water Inlet Valve" located at bottom right rear of Fridge. Easy to do, just follow the color codes, be sure and shut off the water.

Kitchenaid Icemaker with Aqua Sense is not working.

If the freezer was shut off for a time, then the water in the feed tube may have frozen when the freezer was turned back on. Check to see if there is ice in the mold. If empty, then the feed tube is clogged or frozen (or else the water inlet valve may have failed, less likely).

The icemaker stop working on my Whirlpool side by side frig

If there are ice cubes setting in the icemake waiting to be dumped then the icemaker is bad. If the icemake is dry then the water valve is bad. You have one water valve with two solenoids. One works water in the door and the other sends water to the icemaker.

I called GE and they don't have a recall or any formal documentation available to Cust. support people but found this on another site. A Replacement Program my GE, letter to GE service techs regarding problem. My model was listed and i am ready when the GE tech comes tomorrow that he knows about it.
