Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook
Although I'm able to connect to the dail up internet through blueyonder/Virgin, for some reason I can't either open a web-site or unable to click on a link in an opened web-site.
My modem is a Agere USB 2.0 56K V.92 and I've contacted Virgin who asked me to delete temp internet files as there where no problems with the line. They did say it may be a problem with the fire-wall and to contact the manufacturer.
Can you help please?
I'm not sure what your dial up service was trying to help you do to move around while on the internet. Clearing your temp files realy was not an issue. Are you running a Antivirus program that also provides firewall protection? Is the anti-virus software up to date?
Go to this link for your Dell. Open Communication. Download & install the newer files, D480 MDC V.92 Modem dated 2/23/2006.
Download & install Conexant - Diagnostics Utility 9/13/2004.
Run the diagnostic utility. This will check your modem for function.
Support for dial-up service is alway bad. Most blame your PC or your phone lines as a problem & that is just not true 98% of the time.
To turn off windows firewall, open control panel. Double left click Windows Firewall to open. Shut off windows firewall. Also make sure your windows is up to date.
Lastly make sure your Internet security level is set to medium low. To check this load Internet Explorer. Click tools & than click
Internet Options. Click the Security tab. Than click Privacy & set that to medium or medium low. Cloce internet explorer & re-open. Try moving about. Did that help?

Youre temp files wont stop you from accessing sites but firewall will;if you have antivirus software you can access firewall settings and either tempory disable it or add exceptions(allow various programs) you might wanna try clicking tools,internet option,security;first and select option with lesser security zone.
