Dell Latitude Laptop - Unable to open Web-Sites

Hello,

Although I'm able to connect to the dail up internet through blueyonder/Virgin, for some reason I can't either open a web-site or unable to click on a link in an opened web-site.

My modem is a Agere USB 2.0 56K V.92 and I've contacted Virgin who asked me to delete temp internet files as there where no problems with the line. They did say it may be a problem with the fire-wall and to contact the manufacturer.

Can you help please?

Thanks for all this timely information. I have reduced the security on internet options but I do not have Windows Firewall icon in my control panel. Is there another way to disable the firewall?

This is a new refurb laptop which I bought 3 weeks ago with Windows 2000; it connected perfectly to start with and the modem is brand new. I do get a registry error appearing from time to time advising me to connect to a registry fix web-site but obviously I can't.

    Thanks.

    1) Check the telephone number again, make sure that you do not need to add an area code or prefix number.

    2) When you are 'connected' go to

Start\Programs\Accessories\Communications and check to make sure your dialler is enabled and showing as connected.

    3) Make sure you have entered the correct userid and password. This is case sensitive. If you do not do this, you may still be able to connect but will not be authorised to view any pages.

    4) If you feel the firewall may be a problem (unlikely), try disabling it or turning it off temporarily.

    5) You can also try reinstalling the drivers for your modem, athough this may be difficult if you don't have a disc because you will not be able to download the driver until you can connect properly.

    6) Try connecting the modem to a different usb socket, then restart your computer and try again.

    7) Check your security settings by going to internet explorer\tools\internet options\security

Hello King,
I'm not sure what your dial up service was trying to help you do to move around while on the internet. Clearing your temp files realy was not an issue. Are you running a Antivirus program that also provides firewall protection? Is the anti-virus software up to date?
Go to this link for your Dell. Open Communication. Download & install the newer files, D480 MDC V.92 Modem dated 2/23/2006.
Download & install Conexant - Diagnostics Utility 9/13/2004.
Run the diagnostic utility. This will check your modem for function.
Support for dial-up service is alway bad. Most blame your PC or your phone lines as a problem & that is just not true 98% of the time.
To turn off windows firewall, open control panel. Double left click Windows Firewall to open. Shut off windows firewall. Also make sure your windows is up to date.
Lastly make sure your Internet security level is set to medium low. To check this load Internet Explorer. Click tools & than click
Internet Options. Click the Security tab. Than click Privacy & set that to medium or medium low. Cloce internet explorer & re-open. Try moving about. Did that help?
Click the link below. This will take you to the driver download site for your dell.

Your Dell Latitude D600 works best when using an ISP (Internet Service Provider) that uses your intergrated Lan card. It's ten times faster & tech support is 100 times better.

Good luck.

Youre temp files wont stop you from accessing sites but firewall will;if you have antivirus software you can access firewall settings and either tempory disable it or add exceptions(allow various programs) you might wanna try clicking tools, internet option, security;first and select option with lesser security zone.

when u access internet does ur home page load if so connection is ok so the only reason I can think of is that ur sp is restricting ur access.try open tools, select internet options, select connections.setup.to try different sp.

could also be homepage not allowing.or could be software not installed for internet properly. If you can get hold of a os disk 98,2000,or xp will do to add components or my choice would be upgrade system if ur running 2000.If you cant get one I have xppro service pack 3... I can send to you.Its an iso fle which means that all the files I send you copy onto a disk then the disk becomes bootable system disk.

The Dell Latitude E6400 laptop comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor for fast computing and an NVIDIA graphics card for video playback, gaming and Web browsing. The laptop has a built in Wi-Fi card, letting you connect to the Internet on-the-go. However, if you're unfamiliar with Dell or the laptop's factory installed Windows Vista operating system, you might not know how to enable to Wi-Fi.

Slide the switch on the side of the laptop toward the front of the laptop. This switch enables Wi-Fi connectivity on the Dell Latitude E6400. When switched into the back position, the Wi-Fi is turned off. Turn on your Dell Latitude E6400 laptop and log into Windows Vista. Click on the Windows "Start" button. Click on "Wireless," located in the Start menu's "Show" list. A list of currently broadcasting wireless networks appears on screen. With your Wi-Fi enabled, you can connect to any of these available networks. Secured networks ask you for a password when you click "Connect," while unsecured networks connect automatically.

You can try setting up a new internet connection through the internet connection wizard, but you will probably need a disc from Sprint in order to do this.

Unable to connect to aol.com

the first thing I'd try is booting to the safe mode with networking and see if you can access the page. If you can, then the problem is most likely a firewall issue blocking that web page.

try to go to safe mode by tapping F8 after the dell screen at startup, check if system can get a webpage.it is evident that your dad can connect to the internet because he can access and download his emails. Try to reset IE7 by clicking tools on IE7, then go to internet options, go to advanced tab, click reset button. If still if still could not connect, uninstall then reinstall anti virus sw.

the excellent connection refers to the wireless signal and not the internet connection, so go to tools on your web browser, internet options, then delete all temp files, history and cookies, close your browser down and open it up again and see if it connects, if not keep clicking refresh.

Try different sites incase there is a fault on the site you are trying to browse.
