I am sorry to break the bad news that is a cracked screen - They are not cheap to replace I think around $300 to get one of those Kiosk guys to do it. The good news is that you seem to still be able to use it. Any more stress on the screen may crack it further which means there may be more unreadable sections other then that there is not issue in still using the phone.
If the screen is cracked it needs to be replaced. Unless it is under warranty still it is likely not worth fixing because of the cost of LCD screens compared to the cost of replacing the whole unit.
It sounds like not only was the glass screen cracked, but the LCD has been damaged as well. My suggestion is to find a local cell phone repair shop and get it replaced. It should be pretty easy to fix and shouldn't cost too much. Unless of course you have insurance on the phone..if so then just order a new one.
take it up with the Samsung head office or get a lawyer involved
company admitted faults are covered by warranty regardless of the period and you do not pay for anything
suspect that it is the service agent doing the ripping
Lcd and PlasmaPanels typically run from $900.00 to $1500.00 retail. If you have a trained samsung tech replace the Panel, you are looking at or near the cost of a new tv all said and done.
