Question about Barebone Systems

Our Canon Selphy DS810 is not printing any color on the photo paper. I cleaned it several weeks ago, we have a new ink cartridge in and nothing. It was printing a light yellow color several weeks ago which alerted me to complete a deep cleaning. Can you help?? Rachel

    give a "service", not sure what you're talking about. . . Several weeks ago it was only spraying yellow ink, i cleaned it, it was running fine up until this morning. It is completely blank now.

    not soo soon.....there may be some problem in the spray section...
    it may not be spraying properly,..as you have said you noticed yellow color ....the yollow ink may be spraying...

    it will be working fine if you just give a service to the printer......

There are all kinds of printers and printing problems. It’s important to note at the outset that for safety reasons you should unplug your printer if you plan on working inside the device for any reason. In addition to the electrical hazard, printers (especially laser printers) can also be very hot on the inside, so use caution.

There are a few general troubleshooting steps you should take first, regardless of your printing problem. These will help solve most everyday printing issues.

Reboot. You’ll be amazed at how many printing problems simply disappear after you restart your computer. Also, reboot your printer. Sometimes, for no good reason, a printer will become wedged (it just stops communicating with the computer). Turning your printer off for a few seconds, and then back on, will usually get you going again.

Read the printer’s lights. Doing this can provide you with very useful clues. Is the power light on? Is the paper feed light blinking? Don’t be afraid to press buttons on the printer: Turn it off and on, reset the paper feed, and take the printer offline and bring it online again.

Check your physical connections. Is the power cord loose? Does the cable from the printer to the PC have a secure connection at both ends? Look at the connector pins on your cable. Are they bent? Try another cable if you have one. Check the print cartridges and printing mechanism. Is anything blocking the printer? Are the cartridges firmly in place?

Print a Windows test page. Access your printer’s Properties dialog box (follow the directions given above). Select the General tab and click the Print Test Page button. If nothing else, you can find out a good deal about your printer’s problem. If the test page prints, you have a problem with your application, not with Windows. Answer the questions as prompted and work through Windows’ Print Troubleshooter as needed.

Drivers. Verify drivers on the Details tab in the Printer Properties dialog box. Make sure the installed driver corresponds with your actual printer. Check the manufacturer’s Web site for updated drivers and browse the support pages on the site while you’re there.

The print dosen't appear on the paper


Tough call on this one. There are a lot of problems that could be happening. I'll presume you have an inkjet printer, since those are the most common. Of course, you want to make sure you have ink and that the cartridges aren't so old that they're dried up. An ink cartridge that is WAY out of date isn't likely to work. Hopefully you're working with good ink cartridges, and we'll presume that they are. Try these solutions to make your printer go:

1. Run the cleaning cycle. Usually accessed through a menu on the printer, computer, or both.

2. Clean the contacts...use 100% alcohol that can be purchased in the paint department of larger stores like Walmart or Home Depot. If you have nothing else, use cotton swabs, but be sure not to leave any cotton behind on this or the next step.

3. Clean the print cartridge jets using that same alcohol. Foam swabs are best, but harder to find. If you absolutely have to, you can use 50 or 70% isopropyl, but the other part is water...doesn't evaporate as quickly.

4. If your print head is separate from the cartridge, it gets a little weird here. First you can remove the print head (your printer manual will tell you if this has a a separate one), clean it with the alcohol. If this fails (and in my experience, it usually does), take that print head and put it in hot water in a container that's expendable (it's going to change color)...let it soak for a few hours, overnight if possible. Swish it around in the water...you may have to repeat this step depending on how much ink is still left in the print head. When it appears that most of the ink has been cleared out, shake as much water as possible and let it dry for a minimum of 24 hours on a paper towel or something that's (again) expendable and won't bleed through to the surface you're putting it one, just in case more ink leaks out. You may have to repeat the print head washing steps a few times for the water to be clear. Reinstall the printhead and cartridges. Run a cleaning cycle...hopefully it'll work by then.

You need to specify the paper type when the print dialog box appears. Heavy glossy paper needs to spend more time in the fuser so that the toner is fixed.

I no longer have my manual, how do I change the ink cartridges for the HP Officejet 6300 all-in-one?


To replace the print cartridges
1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is on.
Caution If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print cartridge door
to access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the
cartridges for changing. You might damage the HP All-in-One if the print
cartridges are not docked safely on the right side when you try to remove
them.
2. Open the print cartridge door.
The print carriage moves to the far right side of the HP All-in-One.
3. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a
print cartridge to release it.
If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the
slot on the left.
If you are replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge
from the slot on the right.
4. Pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot.
5. If you are removing the black print cartridge in order to install the photo print
cartridge, store the black print cartridge in the print cartridge protector or an
airtight plastic container.
If you are removing the print cartridge because it is low or out of ink, recycle the
print cartridge. The HP Inkjet Supplies Recycling Program is available in many
countries/regions, and lets you recycle used print cartridges free of charge. For

6. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch
only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab.
7. Slide the new print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Then gently push on the
upper part of the print cartridge forward until it clicks into the socket.
If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot.
If you are installing a black or photo print cartridge, slide it into the right slot.
8. Close the print cartridge door
9. If you installed a new print cartridge, the print cartridge alignment process begins.
10. Make sure you have plain paper loaded in the input tray, and then press OK.
11. The HP All-in-One aligns the print cartridges. Recycle or discard the print
cartridge alignment sheet.
12. Press OK.

Hi I have just inserted a new HP ink cartridge 94 into my HP PSC 2350, as the ink was running low. I was printing photos, which keept printing with a red line throughout the picture. After inserting the...


Try opening the printer properties and cleaning the print heads (should probably be done each time a cartridge is changed), it uses some ink up but should clean the build up from running the previous cartridge dry and hopefully solve your printing problem.

Printer ink consumption


Even if you are not using it for printing, the ink inside the cartidge will be dry, some solutions composed in the ink can be easily be dry if it is exposed in excessive heat or cold..

Can't print in colour


Hi Paddy,
It sounds like the color ink cartridge is clogged. You can try taking the color cartridge out, and take a paper towel and some windex with amonia. Spray the paper towel with the windex and then take the color cartridge, and wipe the bottom of the ink cartridge. After wiping the bottom of the cartridge, try pressing on the bottom of the cartridge (Print head) with the paper towel...You should start seeing some ink soaking into the paper towel. If you do not see any ink on the paper towel, then try wiping it again with the windex/paper towel. If after a couple tries, you can not get the ink to flow from the print head, then I would suggest getting a new cartridge.
The HP ink cartridges can get a bit tricky and the print heads will clog when the printer is left sitting for a long period of time.

We just attached the macbook to the hppsc 1350v all in one printer and new print cartridges. When attempting to print, message reads"color print cartridge not compatible with this printer". We know we have...


Hi,

Just to confirm pls:
1. the new print cartridges are original HP inks;
2. you have remove the bright pink tape from the ink cartridges;
3. the black is on the right side and the color is on the left side.

You can try removing both cartridges and clean the gold colored contacts where the pink tape was. Pls do the same to the mate pins in the cartridge holder in the printer.

Try again. If this does not be corrective, you may need to change inks again.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

The cartridge needs cleaning. There are several things you can try. Using a wet paper towel, you can wipe the gold portion of the cartridge to try and draw out ink, or you can dunk the entire cartridge in warm water for a couple minutes or so (I have done this with success). The process is more clearly explained here:
