I just had my machine serviced went to start it

I just had my machine serviced. According to the repair document the service people took our "burrs" underneath. I went to start it and again after I sent the design to the machine, again the broken thread light appears and I hear a clunking like sound like the needle is hitting something in the bobbin area. Then ALL the lights begin flashing. In the initial sewing, a nest develops on the underside of the fabric and no embroidery can occur. What is going on?

If the needle is hitting something it sounds to me as though the machine has gone out of time, providing you have made sure that the tensions are set properly and the most obvious thing which is the needle in the correct way round then timing is very suspect, I can attach timing instructions if you email me [email protected]

If it's just blue thread, then chances are you've got a bad spool of thread. Try a different color of the same type. Otherwise, take the thread off the top of the machine, clean it according to the recommendations in the manual, then rethread from scratch, carefully, according to the manual. Bad needle, bad thread and threading problems are the most likely causes. The final set of likely causes is a burr or sharp spot on one of the eyes thread runs through, or on the needle's eye, or presser foot or needle plate (=throat plate). Burrs can be *gently* polished off with a piece of crocus cloth.

Serger won't stitch

Sergers are very interesting and complex machines, and you don't have to have something out of whack very much to upset the operation. Check your treading again - make sure it all the treads match the diagrams. Check your needle(s) for burrs at the tip. If in doubt, replace them. Check the needle plate and foot for burrs. Anytime a needle comes in contact with anything but fabric, there's a fair chance something will get a burr. When that happens, the thread doesn't feed properly.

Not sure where you can take it. Check your thread tension and bobbin tension. Make sure they are not too tight. Also, how old is your thread? Many times, old thread will break easily. Check your needles for burrs. If there is a burr, the thread will break constantly when the needle moves up and down as it catches on the plate.

Started machine quilting; first pass went just fine, rolled up quilted portion, then started machine again but the bobbin thread broke and continues to break. Took out bobbin, reset it in case, etc. N

from what you said about the bobbin thread continues to break
check for burrs in the following area--even the smallest burr can cause problems
bobbin
bobbin case
needle plate
needle could be damaged
or bad thread

Suddenly my needle became loose and when I tried to reinsert it as the manual instructs (flat side facing away) it now hits the metal plate. I think this is an easy fix because it seems to me that this...

sounds like the needle is bent & needs to be replaced.
check your throat plate to see if there are any burrs on the plate because they can snag the fabric
if you feel any burrs on the plate take it to a service dealer to have the burr removed
