... turn on TV? ... had to say that...

Is it on the correct source? Check to see where you have it plugged into the back or side if the TV (make sure it is an input and not an output) and then select that source in the TV menu.

Depending on type of TV, it will be Line 1,2, or 3... maybe 'Video' .... So many possibilities...

If that is not it.... might take it to a different TV and try there.... if it does not work try different cables, then assume the DVD is bad (is it just a DVD palyer and not a combo VHS/DVD player...?)

I would take it back to the place of purchase and ask them to show you how to play your video be it a DVD or a file from YouTube or the Internet. I've had this happen when I tried to play a video file from the Internet and my Video playing Application didn't have a codec for the type I was trying to play.

My Insignia DVD/VCR will play VHS tapes, but does not record on them when I put a blank in and it shows recording on the VCR, but when I rewind and playback, just get blank sometimes wavy nothing and snow!...

First thing to check is does the video actually get a TV signal to record? When you set the recording going is the channel viewable?
Next thing to do is clean all the video heads, this will include the erase head! If you still can't get it to record and the VCR does pick up a signal to record, then there will be an electronic fault that is causing the no record signal.

Make sure you have the right DVD disc and the disc is clean if you do... (2) make sure you connected it right and are fully seated. LINE IN on your DVD-R is for the recorder part LINE OUT on the tv is to send it to the DVD-R If you done that try another RCA cable or two That should fix it

I have the same model ... you can't use DVD-R or DVD-RW discs, only DVD+R or DVD+RW
