When I turn the camera on it says "Access" then on the screen it shows "Turn the power off and on again". Well that doesn't work. Any suggestions?

My camera also says "access" and the lens goes in and out. Banging it has not helped - I wonder if the guy was serious. Has anyone else solved this?

The fault description others have posted above is exactly the same as I get and banging nor sd card replacement has worked for me. Its only two years old and well looked after!

The banging has helped a bit but once I turn off the camera the problem comes back. My palm is so red from banging on the darn camera! Of course this would happen on Christmas Eve when I have a 2 yr old to take pictures of! I have gotten it to work 3 times but now it isn't working at all.

I had the same problem described here and read that you can bang the camera as you power it on. I banged my DSC-W50 while powering up, at first lightly with increasing strength each time. It started working after the 3rd impact.

ACCESS message

One guy with the same problem fixed it by running over it with his SVU and posting the video on Youtube. It's smashed but "access" has disappeared from the screen.

Have Access problem for DSC W55 and requests that I turn power on/off but still doesn't work.

I had the same problem with my camera. After doing some research I learned that the focus/lens may be stuck. So I opened up my camera, wiggled the lens a little, put the camera back together and it worked again. Good luck!

Digital Camera Fault

ACCESS error could happen when lens gets stuck but if it happens when lens moves back and forth without problem it usually means that where the lens assembly plugs into main system board connection is loose. These connections are held in place by a very small thin fragile plastic clip and a few drops could be enough to snap it but not do any other noticeable damage to camera. Camera would need to be opened to see if clip is broken or maybe cable just needs to me reinserted. Either way only open camera if no longer under warranty and you are somewhat handy
