Hi,
It does have a thermic switch, but I don't beleive that's your problem. I guarantee you that the problem is a loose or broken wire.
Take the electrical cover screw(s) off and check the electrical cable connetion to the Iron's hot plate, usually they come loose or break because of the heat. Don't be fooled by the look of a normal looking wire, it may be broken inside. Feel the wires with your fingers, bend it, pull it and look for a bump or soft spot. The best way y to check continuity.
Good Luck

Premature shutting off

Have you try with lower heat setting?
It seems like it might be thermostat or thermal fuse that is not working properly.

I plug the iron in , 5 minutes later it turns off ! Is that a auto shut-off problem or something else

The iron has an auto shut off of usually 8 minutes. The iron will automatically turn on if you move the iron. If this does not answer your concern, let me know and we can look for a solution. Thanks.

The automatic shut off quit working. Stays on all the time unless it's unplugged

Hi.

The thermostat must be replaced.

The iron uses a thermal cut off that will disconnect power to the element when the top temperature is reached.

In your case the thermostat is shorted inside, and will never cut off.

The part can be ordered calling B&D at their customer support number, listed on the owners manual.

Auto shut off how to turn back on?

The automatic shut off is a protective device to let the iron cool down when not in use. Normally, if you pick the iron up and sit it down on the board or fabric, the iron will "sense" the motion and click back on to the heating cycle. To turn the iron off, just move the dial to the lowest position, or OFF and or unplug it from the outlet. If left unattended for a while, and when picking it back up to iron, if it does not come back on then you may need to increase the heat setting, move the dial a little, till you see the power light come back on. This is a safety item, and a good one, given the hectic lifestyles we have now, and having busy lives. If we forget to shut the iron off, it does it for itself after a period of non-use. No more trips to the store or wherever and remembering "I forgot to unplug/turn-off the iron I was using". Still, it's best to unplug and or turn it off when not in use. I prefer unplugging, so that it does not be a "vampire device" drawing even little amounts of current when not in use. And it's safest when unplugged and cool.

It shuts itself off

The SHARK ELECTRONIC Iron is equipped with an electronic auto-off. The electronic auto-off switches the iron off if it has been left standing unmoved in any position (sideways, flat or upright) for approximately 7-9 minutes. A red light on the LED display panel will flash when the iron switches itself off. (Fig. 7) To switch the iron back on, just shake the iron side-to-side several times.

I have a Rowenta Pro. Iron, model DE-86.1A with auto shut-off. It sticks on auto shut-off. I have to move it around for it to heat up, as indicated by the sensor light on the top.

I believe that is how the safety feature works.

Once the iron detects no movement for a certain period of time (the iron assumes you have finished ironing) the iron will shut of the heating element.

One you have moved it around, the timer should prevent it from auto shutting down for a period of time.
