I am able to move the gear shift, but the vehicle stays stuck in reverse. When I put the gear shift in R, Drive or any other gear the car does not move or even sound like its ingaging anything.

Maybe the shifter cable. I would look under the car on the drivers side of the transmission, with the wheels blocked, have someone operator the gear shifter and see if it is moving the shift lever on the transmission.

I experienced almost the same problem last month. According to PowerFord in Torrance, the transmission shift cable was broken (basically wore out somehow) and had to be replaced. According to my invoice, the actual cable was $81.02 and labor was $395.99.

Good luck!

I have a 2004 Aviator with 56K miles and had the transmission shift cable break the day before Thanksgiving. The parts and labor cost was $306.00.

My T45 transmission is stuck in first gear and bogs down when I shift it to reverse

It appears this is a 5 speed manual transmission. There may be shift linkage problems between the shift lever and transmission. also bushings. I strongly recommend a repair manual specificly for this transmission. possibly filespeep.com or manualslib.com
How is the clutch and throwout bearing?

My gears want move in drive or reverse but will if I put in 3rd gear then drive once driving tranny shifts smoove could that be a bad module

If you can get it to work right by doing that (shift threw all gears), then it isn't the module. I would start with checking ground points. Battery to body, battery to engine and engine to body. These are cables. Then there are 1 or 2 grounds on the engine from the harness and a couple on the transmission. If these check out, then I would say you have a bad harness in the transmission. Goes to the solenoid pack/ valve body.

I have a 98 land rovor will not go in to gear ?

it won\'t go into gear as in the shifter does not come out of "park"? or vehicle will not move when placed in "reverse" or "drive"? if its not coming out of "park" you may either have a faulty brake switch or shifter lock solenoid is stuck. on certain european automobiles i have come across the shifter stays locked because the internal solenoid in the shifter assembly has gone bad and the entire shifter ass\'y would need to be replaced. this is the worst case scenario. majority of the time its a bad brake light switch not sending the signal to the shift interlock to release the solenoid within the shifter.

now if your vehicle is failing to move while in "reverse" or "drive" you have some sort of internal failure with the trans. it can be something as simple as a shift solenoid or major such as broken planetary gear.

When I put my gear into Reverse, Netrual and Drive the gear is getting stiff to move. Why is this happening?

If you mean the shifter is getting hard to move, its probably the shift linkage sticking, try a couple squirts of pblaster or other penetrating oil. If the motion of the vehicle is getting hard to drive in reverse and drive the torque converter may be the issue.

I have a F250 lariat with a 460 - truck stalls when I put it in gear - even after it runs for 20 min. Sometimes it will stall while I'm driving. I had carborator replaced last year. Hope you can help.

Some possible causes could be:

Vacuum leaks cause an engine to run lean witch can cause the vehicle to stall when put into gear.

Improper base idle adjustment can cause the vehicle to stall when shifted into drive or reverse

A malfunctioning or damaged carburetor can cause the vehicle to stall when shifted into drive or reverse

Improper ignition timing can cause the vehicle to stall when shifted into drive or reverse.

A malfunctioning or damaged transmission or torque converter can cause the vehicle to stall when shifted into drive or reverse

Transmission question

hi i will try help, well yes it will have adverse results on his gear box if he is putting it in drive and then reverse before the vehicle stops going forward, ile explain, when you engage the gear and drive forward, the centrifugal force is sent to the torque converter This engages reverse gear within the transmission, giving the ability for the vehicle to drive backwards. In order for the driver to select reverse, they must come to a complete stop push the shift lock button in (or pull the shift lever forward in the case of a column shifter) and select reverse. Not coming to a complete stop can cause severe damage to the transmission. Many modern automatic transmissions have a safety mechanism in place, which does to some extent prevent (but does not completely avoid) inadvertently putting the car in reverse when the vehicle is moving forwards. This mechanism usually consists of a solenoid-controlled physical barrier on either side of the Reverse position, which is electronically engaged by a switch on the . Therefore, the brake pedal needs to be depressed in order to allow the selection of reverse. Some electronic transmissions prevent or delay engagement of reverse gear altogether while the car is moving. Some shifters with a shift button allow the driver to freely move the shifter from R to N or D, or simply moving the shifter to N or D without actually depressing the button. However, the driver cannot put back the shifter to R without depressing the shift button to prevent accidental shifting, especially at high speeds, which could damage the transmission.so hope that answers your question and end the feud lol, please vote thanks

96 escort manual 5 speed stuck in reverse

Is the stick moving? or is it 'stuck' in the reverse position as well? There are adjustments but it seems more likely that your 'stick' has come unstuck from the gear levers that actually put the gears in the right spot. Have someone look at the transmission while you move the stick to see if the levers are moving and put your response here.
