Solution #1 is good advice. The codec pack is found here:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm

However be aware if you are using Windows Vista you may also need this:

    If you need to convert the mpeg-4 to something else, use the Any Video Converter, free version.

    http://www.any-video-converter.com/downl...

    It's the second one from the bottom of the page. Works like a charm, no adware, spyware, and totally free all the time. Very nice!

Mp4 and Mp3 codecs along with many others are not free. I wouldn't advise using any applications other than a true license codec within your application software on the enterprise level. K-lite has known issues to my knowledge.

You may be able to remove then put back WMP from Programs and Features in Control Panel. Click on add/remove features and you should see it there. Uncheck the box and apply. Restart afterwards then check the box and apply. May require another reboot.

My sound is not work..i instaled the driver, at realtek manager demo i hear, but at movie, song, or youtube..not work...i have motherboad asusM2A-VM ...ty

I hate to say it, but I often run into problems with my audio dying when I'm attempting to adjust the audio properties on a flash-based video stream. The only way I can get it to reset without rebooting is to throw my PC into "Stand By" and then bringing it back out of it. This resets all of the multimedia hardware on my PC. It's crude, but it works.

Is it possible to import MP4 files into Windows Movie Maker 6.0 without having to convert to a different format first? I have a Pinnacle Video Transfer device that creates MP4 files, that I want to...

Windows Media Player 11 recognizes and plays MPEG-4 just fine but WMM doesn't recognize them. I would like to import some MPEG-4 files into Movie Maker and work with them - is there a codecs or something that allows this?

I'm sure I can find a program to convert MP4 into a format MM will recognize but if possible I'd like to just skip the conversion step and work with MP4 directly in MM.

Thanks!====================================================
Movie Maker is not compatible with MP4 files...
best bet would be to convert them to .wmv.

The following freebie might be worth a try:

Format Factory
http://www.pcfreetime.com/

All to MP4 / 3GP / MPG / AVI / WMV / FLV / SWF.
All to MP3 / WMA / AMR / OGG / AAC / WAV.
All to JPG / BMP / PNG / TIF / ICO / GIF / TGA.

You need some software to convert the protected M4P music file to unprotected MP3, WAV etc first, then you can import the mp3 files into Windows Movie Maker as background music.
TuneClone is such a software to convert the M4P music file to MP3, WAV easily. You can click here to download TuneClone and convert them to MP3 files and then import the music files into Windows Movie Maker project.

TuneClone uses a virtual CD burning technology to simulate the burning and ripping process and can convert M4P files to MP3 without any CD-R disc and do this work quickly. TuneClone installs a virtual CD-RW, it helps you burn any unprotected or DRM protected M4P, M4a, WMA music files onto the virtual CD, rips tracks on the virtual CD, encodes tracks onto MP3, WAV or WMA music files. It can repeat this audio converting procedure until your whole music collection is done.
Since the virtual CD emulates your computer RAM and hard disk as erasable CD-RW drive (Virtual CD-RW), the converting speed is faster than any other m4p to mp3 conversion programs.

Windows Movie Maker is video creating/editing software that is included in recent versions of Microsoft Windows. It contains features such as effects, transitions, titles/credits, audio track, timeline narration, and Auto Movie. New effects and transitions can be made and existing ones can be modified using XML code.

Dreamscene,

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Based on your post, "everything including the kitchen sink" and yet... Let's try the basics:
  • is your system overclocked?
  • if yes, would your BIOS allow you to run the video card at stock/default while all others are upped;
  • could you try disabling "Enable write combining". This would be inside Display Properties/Settings tab/Advanced button/Troubleshoot tab;
  • any problem when adjusting hardware acceleration (same location);
  • can you try bunching the videos, pictures, scenes or whatever that you would want in the DirectShow in either My Pictures or My Videos (pls try both);
  • can you try running your Screen Resolution and/or Screen Refresh Rate a notch down;
  • have you tried running "dxdiag"?
  • have you tried running a Divx Player? and
  • have you tried downgrading the nVidia driver?
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Dreamscene and Deskscape wont run.

Its a matter of market demand and product obsolesence. The 8500 series display adpater wasn't a big hit and nvidia is focusing on the 9000 series right now. The developer copies of Windows 7 is out now and companies like Nvidia are devoting what manpower they have left after layoffs towards that. Your 8500 has/is put on the slow path. There will be updates but you may want to look at getting a hold of a GeForce 9600 Video Adapter. The 9800, although attractive by the specs, draws an incredible amount of wattage from your system and it could put you into power starvation depending on your components and what you do while multi tasking.

The Vista drivers are pretty buggy too. But, if you are getting what you expect count your blessings as many are stuck with a very broken product after paying all that money for this version of Vista that's way over priced.

BTW, the next version of Windows will be pretty good out of the first box and a definet 'have to have' after Vista.

Thanks, for using FixYa. It was a pleasure to work with you. You're not alone, by the way, in asking for help and once getting attention, find you can resolve your own problem.

Next time too, remember the free forum is a pretty good option. The way to get attention is to do what you did. Provide a thorough articulate explanation of your problem. It will hold the promise of working with someone who can communicate.

Regards,
Worldvet
