CONFIGURE TO SKYPE Connect webcam Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start (To reboot the webcam software) - if you have been using it elsewhere the SKYPE software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly. The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted. Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software. If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.
Start Skype. On the 'Tools' menu, click 'Options'. In the navigation pane of the Skype 'Options' window, click 'Audio Settings' Run down the list setting your defaults Select your webcam as the default microphone. Make a free test call Click 'Save' In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings. This will launch your webcam Adjust quality of picture in 'Settings' Check the correct webcam is shown as default Click Save Test your webcam by making a Skype test call. SKYPE Video and Audio problems This problem is common and depends upon the number of users logged into Skype. Because the Skype server is in the UK, all VoIP transmission travel to and from each party goes via UK and depending upon the time of day and Internet traffic (there are millions of Skype users), it affects video and audio quality. You can improve but not entirely eliminate this problem because video data uses a lot of available bandwidth and your friend may also experiencing the same problem with your video. 1. To reduce the amount of video data being transmitted, set the both of your cameras to e-mail size resolution 320X240. 2. If the video and audio quality are still bad, then both of you should turn off the video and just communicate using the voice. The voice quality will improve and not break up. I know it is nice to see the other person, if possible then try other times of the day/night when the video and voice quality due to less Skype on the Internet and try to communicate during these times.
The performance of Skype is affected by the bandwidth available from your ISP. The video image your are sending and receiving occupy a large part of the information transmitted over the Internet, therefore make sure the video image setting is at a resolution of 320X240 (e-mail size) and if this is still affecting the audio quality to the other person (ie. the voice breaks up) and the video image then switch the video camera off and if sound and video image from the other party is also affecting you, then also get them to switch off their video camera.
Also check the Video and Microphone settings in Skype - Tools - Options etc. Check the correct video camera and microphone has been selected.

When you sign in to Skype, you'll need to check your settings (the tab where you change your wallpaper, sounds, privacy, etc. You'll find an area for configuring your webcam, just follow the directions and make sure you give Skype the permission to start your webcam. You can also change the settings of your webcam to automatically respond to programs you choose. It's a great cam, I was able to talk to my husband and kids very easily from Sweden via Skype in February, the sound is very good and the pictures are not bad at all. I also can talk to my friend in Sweden, now that I'm home and it works great.
